Aerothermal Investigations of Tip Leakage Flow in Axial Flow Turbines—Part III: TIP Cooling
Journal of Turbomachinery, 2008Contours of heat transfer coefficient and effectiveness have been measured on the tip of a generic cooled turbine blade, using the transient liquid crystal technique. The experiments were conducted at an exit Reynolds number of 2.3×105 in a five-blade linear cascade with tip clearances of 1.6% and 2.8% chord and featuring engine-representative cooling ...

Tip Leakage Flow Instability in a Centrifugal Compressor
Journal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power, 2019Abstract In this paper, an unsteady tip leakage flow phenomenon is identified and investigated in a centrifugal compressor with a vaneless diffuser at near-stall conditions. This phenomenon is associated with the inception of a rotating instability in the compressor.

Squealer Tip Leakage Flow Characteristics in Transonic Condition
Volume 6A: Turbomachinery, 2013The Over-Tip-Leakage (OTL) flow characteristics for a typical squealer tip of high pressure turbine blade, which consists of subsonic and transonic flow, have been numerically investigated in the present study, in comparison with the corresponding flat tip results. For the squealer tip employed, flow choking behavior still exists above the tip surface,

Broaband Noise Prediction Models And Measurements of Tip Leakage Flows
14th AIAA/CEAS Aeroacoustics Conference (29th AIAA Aeroacoustics Conference), 2008Further experimental analysis of a tip leakage flow and of its associated broadband noise generation is investigated. Based on simultaneous 2 D LDA, unsteady wall pressure and far field measurements, a low frequency domain in the far field spectrum is related to the tip leakage vortex and its interaction with the blade t ip.

Tip Leakage Flow Characteristics Downstream of an Axial Flow Fan
Volume 1: Turbomachinery, 1996The three-dimensional viscous flow characteristics and the complex vortex system downstream of the rotor of an industrial exial fan have been determined by an experimental investigation using hot-wire anemometer. Single-wire slanted and straight type probes have been rotated about the probe axis using a computer controlled stepper motor.

Tip Leakage Flow In a Mixed-flow Pump
The numerical results used to describe the special flow features/characteristics of the mixed-flow pump in this chapter were obtained by employing the computational methodology described in Chapter 3 which includes the pump model, mesh generation, turbulence models and their near wall treatment, and the boundary conditions.Wei Li +4 more

Effect of Upstream Unsteady Flow Conditions on Rotor Tip Leakage Flow
Volume 5: Turbo Expo 2002, Parts A and B, 2002A study has been conducted, using unsteady three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes simulations to determine the impact on rotor performance of the interaction between the stator wakes and rotor tip clearance flow. The key effects of the interaction are: (1) a decrease in loss and blockage associated with tip clearance flow; (2) an increase in

Flow visualization study of tip leakage flows across cantilevered stator blades
Journal of Propulsion and Power, 1988A test program has been conducted to study tip leakage flows associated with cantilevered stator blades in axial flow compressor systems. A low-speed single-stage test rig has been developed to simulate flows characteristically found in middle-stage axial flow compressors.
