Prediction of Tip-Leakage Losses in Axial Turbines [PDF]
Existing methods for predicting the tip-leakage losses in turbomachinery are based on a variety of assumptions, many of which have not been fully verified experimentally. Recently, several detailed experimental studies in turbine cascades have helped to clarify the physics of the flow and provide data on the evolution of the losses.

Research on the Influence of Steam Turbine Seal Leakage [PDF]
CFD was employed to simulate the steam flow in 1.5-stage cascades with three different seal clearances. When the seal clearance is 0, there is no steam seal leakage, no obvious secondary flow in the cascade, and the stage efficiency reaches 88.27%.

Blade Loading Effects on Axial Turbine Tip Leakage Vortex Dynamics and Loss [PDF]
Abstract Numerical simulations have been carried out to define the loss generation mechanisms associated with tip leakage in unshrouded axial turbines. Tip clearance vortex dynamics are a dominant feature of two mechanisms important in determining this loss: (i) decreased swirl velocity due to vortex line contraction in regions of ...

Investigation of the tip-leakage losses in turbine axial stages
In turbomachinery, an influence of a tip-leakage flow on overall blade loss is crucial and its reduction is still worth striving for. In this paper a numerical analysis of the flow in tip seal of high-rotating gas turbine engine has been made. This analysis is a part of experimental research for testing the commercially used different tip seals ...
