Effects of Tip Clearance Size on Energy Performance and Pressure Fluctuation of a Tidal Propeller Turbine

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
Unavoidable tip clearance between blade tip and casing shroud plays an important role in the performance and characteristics of a tidal propeller turbine.

An Investigation on the Effect of Endwall Movement on the Tip Clearance Loss Using Annular Turbine Cascade

open access: yesInternational Journal of Rotating Machinery, 2011
The aerodynamic losses in gas turbines are mainly caused by profile loss secondary flow, and tip leakage loss. This study focuses on tip leakage flow of high-pressure turbine stages.

Control and Entropy Analysis of Tip Leakage Flow for Compressor Cascade under Different Clearance Sizes with Endwall Suction

open access: yesEntropy, 2020
To investigate the influence of the change of tip clearance size on the control effect of the endwall suction, the effects of endwall suction on the aerodynamic performance of the axial compressor cascade were studied numerically.

Fluid Flow Equations for Rotordynamic Flows in Seals and Leakage Paths [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Fluid-induced rotordynamic forces produced by the fluid in an annular seal or in the leakage passage surrounding the shroud of a pump or turbine, are known to contribute substantially to the potential excitation forces acting on the rotor.

Measurement and Prediction of Tip Leakage Losses in an Axial-Flow Transonic Turbine [PDF]

open access: yesVolume 1: Aircraft Engine; Marine; Turbomachinery; Microturbines and Small Turbomachinery, 1997
This paper presents a simple method for predicting tip leakage losses in transonic axial-flow turbines. The method is based upon experimental work conducted on a flat plate at 5° incidence and with isentropic exit Mach number of 1.26. The tip gap height was varied from zero up to 15% of chord.

Study on flow characteristics of leakage in the last stage inner blade tip clearance of steam turbine

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2023
Internal steam leakage in steam turbines from the high-pressure side to the low-pressure side through clearances causes loss, resulting in reduced efficiency and potentially compromising the safe operation of the turbine.

Investigation of the tip-leakage losses in turbine axial stages

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2014
In turbomachinery, an influence of a tip-leakage flow on overall blade loss is crucial and its reduction is still worth striving for. In this paper a numerical analysis of the flow in tip seal of high-rotating gas turbine engine has been made. This analysis is a part of experimental research for testing the commercially used different tip seals ...

Numerical investigation of tip clearance effects on the performance of ducted propeller

open access: yesInternational Journal of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, 2015
Tip clearance loss is a limitation of the improvement of turbomachine performance. Previous studies show the Tip clearance loss is generated by the leakage flow through the tip clearance, and is roughly linearly proportional to the gap size.
