Influence of an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere on Diamond‐Single‐Grain Scratching of Ti–6Al–4V
Single‐grain scratching of Ti–6Al–4V is investigated under controlled, oxygen‐free, and ambient atmospheres using a novel experimental setup with in situ high‐speed imaging. The approach enables direct observation of chip formation and adhesion under suppressed oxidation.

Film cooling characteristics of squealer tip of a turbine blade
The high-speed and high-temperature gap leakage flow in the turbine blade tip clearance directly scours the tip of the rotor blade and generates a local high-temperature region, so the active and passive control of the gap leakage flow is very important.

Variable Pitch Approach for Performance Improving of Straight-Bladed VAWT at Rated Tip Speed Ratio
This paper presents a new variable pitch (VP) approach to increase the peak power coefficient of the straight-bladed vertical-axis wind turbine (VAWT), by widening the azimuthal angle band of the blade with the highest aerodynamic torque, instead of ...

Evaluation of range and distortion tolerance for high Mach number transonic fan stages. Task 2: Performance of a 1500-foot-per-second tip speed transonic fan stage with variable geometry inlet guide vanes and stator [PDF]
A 0.5 hub/tip radius ratio compressor stage consisting of a 1500 ft/sec tip speed rotor, a variable camber inlet guide vane and a variable stagger stator was designed and tested with undistorted inlet flow, flow with tip radial distortion, and flow with ...

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Performance of a transonic fan stage designed for a low meridional velocity ratio [PDF]
The aerodynamic performance and design parameters of a transonic fan stage are presented. The fan stage was designed for a meridional velocity ratio of 0.8 across the tip of the stage, a pressure ratio of 1.57, a flow of 29.5 kilograms per second, and a ...

Microstructure Evolution of a VMnFeCoNi High‐Entropy Alloy After Synthesis, Swaging, and Annealing
The synthesis and processing (rotary swaging and annealing) of the novel VMnFeCoNi alloy is investigated, alongside the estimation of the grain size effect on hardness. Analysis of a wide grain size range of recrystallized microstructures (12–210 µm) reveals a low annealing twin density.

Wind-tunnel modelling of the tip-speed ratio influence on the wake evolution
Wind-tunnel measurements on the near-wake evolution of a three bladed horizontal axis wind turbine model (HAWT) in the scale 1:O(350) operating in uniform flow conditions and within a turbulent boundary layer at different tip speed ratios are presented.
