Improved Cerrado Wetland Mapping Through Seasonal Moisture Metrics, Terrain Information and Semantic Segmentation

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Brazil's Cerrado valley wetlands—swamp savanna and gallery forest—are highly important for the biome's water cycle and carbon storage and are susceptible to degradation from the impacts of land use expansion and the climate crisis. In support of their detailed monitoring and assessment, we developed and tested a transferable mapping approach that ...

Impact of food scarcity on the foraging dynamics of Eriopis connexa (Germar, 1824) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) Impacto da escassez de alimentos na dinâmica de forrageamento de Eriopis connexa (Germar, 1824) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae)

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
Starvation duration alters predatory behaviour of Eriopis connexa, affecting aphid consumption and survival dynamics. Increased starvation enhances attack rate, accelerating prey depletion without substantially affecting handling time. Functional response remains type II, with stronger predation under prolonged food deprivation.

A global assessment of animal community responses to agricultural management

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Transitions in agricultural management through crop and noncrop diversification on intensively managed croplands or pastures have benefited biodiversity. However, the extent to which agricultural management benefits species communities present in undisturbed ecosystems remains largely unclear.

Tracking the impact of bottom trawling on benthic habitat status

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Bottom trawling is the most widespread physical disturbance to marine benthic habitats, yet broadscale assessments of its impact remain limited. We developed a quantitative framework to evaluate trawling effects on benthic habitats at broad spatial scales based on the sentinels of seabed (SoS) indicator.

Role of funders in embedding tests in conservation practice

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Effective conservation practice requires decisions based on reliable and relevant evidence, but significant gaps in the evidence base exist. Incorporating well‐designed tests of the effectiveness of interventions for biodiversity in conservation projects is one of the best ways to scale up the rate of evidence generation.
