Management of Thrombocytopenia in Advanced Liver Disease

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Volume 28, Issue 10, Page 558-564, 2014., 2014
Thrombocytopenia (defined as a platelet count <150×109/L) is a well‐known complication in patients with liver cirrhosis and has been observed in 76% to 85% of patients. Significant thrombocytopenia (platelet count <50×109/L to 75×109/L) occurs in approximately 13% of patients with cirrhosis.

Multiscale numerical schemes for kinetic equations in the anomalous diffusion limit [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We construct numerical schemes to solve kinetic equations with anomalous diffusion scaling. When the equilibrium is heavy-tailed or when the collision frequency degenerates for small velocities, an appropriate scaling should be made and the limit model ...

Opinion and report of the French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (ANSES) on the assessment of the impact of fox population dynamics on public health

open access: yesFood Risk Assess Europe, Volume 3, Issue 2, April 2025.
ABSTRACT The Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) can be hunted as a game species. It may also be listed as a “species likely to cause damage” (ESOD – the acronym in French), for public health reasons among others. Conversely, benefits linked to the presence of foxes are also put forward, such as the predation of rodents carrying zoonotic agents.

Life‐Threatening Adverse Events Following Therapeutic Opioid Administration in Adults: Is Pharmacogenetic Analysis Useful?

open access: yesPain Research and Management, Volume 18, Issue 3, Page 133-136, 2013., 2013
BACKGROUND: Systemic approaches are needed to understand how variations in the genes associated with opioid pharmacokinetics and response can be used to predict patient outcome. The application of pharmacogenetic analysis to two cases of life‐threatening opioid‐induced respiratory depression is presented.

A Suite of Pathogens Detected in Ticks Sampled From Wildlife Hosts in Central Kenya

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Ecology, Volume 62, Issue 3, September 2024.
ABSTRACT Opportunistic sampling of ticks from animals during veterinary treatment offers important insights about wildlife exposure to pathogens. Here, we report pathogens and other tick‐borne organisms detected in ticks sampled from 10 animal species in and near Laikipia County, Kenya, in 2014–2016.

Hedgehog Signalling is Downregulated in Celiac Disease

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Volume 27, Issue 1, Page e5-e7, 2013., 2013
BACKGROUND: Celiac disease (CD) is a common autoimmune disorder of the small intestine that occurs in genetically predisposed individuals. Animal studies have suggested that the hedgehog (Hh) signalling pathway is involved in gut inflammation, injury and repair.
