Wearable Electro‐Thermal Haptic Stimulator Driven by a Self‐Powered Tactile Sensor for Realistic Stimulus Replication

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We present a stimulus‐replicating system combining a tactile sensor with a wearable Peltier thermotactile module and concentric electrotactile electrode. Signals encoding pressure and temperature drive the stimulators to reproduce mechano‐thermal cues on the skin. AlN/PDMS encapsulation and SA/LA PSA ensure mechanical compliance and thermal efficiency.

When the Rubber Meets the Road -Ecotoxicological Hazard and Risk Assessment of Tire Wear Particles

open access: yes, 2008
Large amounts of rubber particles are dispersed into the environment due to tire wear. The rubber contains a wide range of chemicals, including several of environmental concern. The purpose of this th...

Chronic dietary exposure to cryo-milled tire tread (CMTT) causes hematotoxicity without growth inhibition in common carp

open access: yesEnvironmental Chemistry and Ecotoxicology
This study investigated the chemical composition of leachate from cryo-milled tire tread (CMTT) and evaluated whether chronic dietary exposure to CMTT induces hematological toxicity in common carp (Cyprinus carpio), including whether UV-induced aging ...

Stretchable, Tough, and Luminescent Perovskite Molecular Ferroelectric Composite: Empowering Reliable Self‐Powered Motion Sensing in High Humidity and Subzero Temperatures

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A flexible molecular ferroelectric composite is fabricated via in situ growth of luminescent DMAA‐MnCl3 ferroelectric crystals within a SEBS/SIS double‐polymer matrix. It delivers 7.54 MPa tensile strength, over 1200% tensile strain, durable piezoelectric motion sensing, and excellent harsh‐environment stability for all‐weather wearable biomechanical ...

Tire wear and tire-road wear particle measurements at inner drum test benches of KIT

open access: yes

Multimodal Bioinspired Self‐Healing Composites Enabling Durable and High‐Efficiency Wearable Perovskite Light‐Emitting Diodes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Butterfly wing–inspired intrinsically self‐healing polymer interlayers enable flexible perovskite optoelectronics with high luminance, strain‐insensitive stability, and environmental resilience. These hierarchically structured films redistribute mechanical stress, suppress defect formation, and maintain performance under repeated bending, paving the ...

Toxicological effects of tire wear particles on mummichogs and fathead minnows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Recent studies on the distribution of microplastics in the Charleston Harbor, SC, revealed that a large part of the microplastic particles that are found in the intertidal sediments are tire wear particles. These particles originate from the wear of tire

Bio‐Inspired Gradient Coatings Enhance the Leading Edge Erosion Resistance of Wind Blades

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Rain‐induced erosion of the wind turbine blade leading edge poses a critical challenge to maintenance and operation. Here, we propose a bio‐inspired approach for erosion protection utilising a platelet‐reinforced polyurethane coating with a graded through‐thickness architecture.

An Empirical Tire-Wear Model for Heavy-Goods Vehicles

open access: yes
Tire selection has an important impact on the operational costs of heavy-goods vehicles (HGVs). HGV tires are designed on a tradeoff between wear resistance, rolling resistance, and adhesion (skid resistance).
