Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for

Adhesive-Electrocoupling Hydrogels for Tissue Regeneration: Design, Mechanisms, and Perspectives

open access: yesResearch
Endogenous bioelectric signals serve as pivotal physiological cues that govern cellular behavior and tissue regeneration. Conductive hydrogels have become a disruptive platform in the field of tissue engineering because they can promote tissue repair by ...

A comparison of aesthetic outcome between tissue adhesive and subcuticular suture in thyroidectomy wound closure in a multiracial country: A randomized controlled trial

open access: yesAsian Journal of Surgery, 2019
Summary: Objectives: Monofilament sutures, both absorbable and non-absorbable, have been used for wound closure. Tissue adhesive has been used in closure of clean, low tension wounds.

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

Charge balance transition enabled Janus hydrogel for robust wet-tissue adhesion and anti-postoperative adhesion

open access: yesBioactive Materials
Janus hydrogels have recently emerged as promising bioadhesives for efficient wet-tissue adhesion and anti-postoperative adhesion. However, existing Janus hydrogel adhesives normally need varied chemical designs of different layers to achieve asymmetric ...

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

A yeast model of 5‐oxoproline accumulation reveals a general toleration to 5‐oxoproline

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a yeast model, we show that even high accumulation of 5‐oxoproline causes only mild cellular stress and does not trigger oxidative stress. Instead, cells adapt by activating efflux pumps and diverse protective pathways, suggesting that previously proposed harmful effects of 5‐oxoproline may arise from indirect metabolic imbalances rather than the

Antibacterial properties of cyanoacrylate tissue adhesive: Does the polymerization reaction play a role?

open access: yesIndian Journal of Ophthalmology, 2009
Purpose: To ascertain if the polymerization reaction also contributes additionally to the antibacterial effects of two commonly used cyanoacrylate tissue adhesives.

Dopamine-Conjugated Methacrylated Gelatin Hydrogel—Physical, Mechanical, and Biological Properties

open access: yesGels
This study develops and characterizes GelMA–dopamine conjugates as novel tissue adhesives, offering an alternative to sutures. GelMA was synthesized at 5%, 10%, and 15% (w/v) with medium and high dopamine (DOPA) conjugation.

The C‐terminal region of KIF26B is indispensable for nephron progenitor condensation and kidney formation in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KIF26B plays an important role in kidney development. We engineered mice lacking the C‐terminal region of KIF26B and found severe kidney defects, including bilateral renal agenesis, similar to full Kif26b knockout mice. The mutation disrupted nephron progenitor condensation and reduced Gdnf‐Wnt11 signaling, showing that the KIF26B C‐terminal region is ...
