Hematopoietic (stem) cells—The elixir of life?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The aging of HSCs (hematopoietic stem cells) and the blood system leads to the decline of other organs. Rejuvenating aged HSCs improves the function of the blood system, slowing the aging of the heart, kidney, brain, and liver, and the occurrence of age‐related diseases.

Donor-derived cell-free DNA predicted allograft rejection and severe microvascular inflammation in kidney transplant recipients

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
IntroductionThe aim of this study is to investigate the clinical validity of donor-derived cell-free DNA (dd-cfDNA) in comparison with that of donor specific anti-HLA antibody (DSA) for predicting biopsy-proven rejection (BPR)and severe microvascular ...

Donors Retain No Rights to Donated Tissue

open access: yesAMA Journal of Ethics, 2009

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Property in body parts and products of the human body [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
An intriguing question, which until recently had not been directly explored by the courts, is the extent to which English law recognises body parts and products of the human body as property capable of ownership.

The role and implications of mammalian cellular circadian entrainment

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
At their most fundamental level, mammalian circadian rhythms occur inside every individual cell. To tell the correct time, cells must align (or ‘entrain’) their circadian rhythm to the external environment. In this review, we highlight how cells entrain to the major circadian cues of light, feeding and temperature, and the implications this has for our

Blood-borne viral infections among blood, organ and tissue donors

open access: yesТрансплантология (Москва), 2016
The article presents an actual information on the detection rate of blood-borne viral infections (BBVI) among blood donors, potential organ and tissue donors in Russia and other countries. The causes of differences in BBVI prevalence between blood donors

Transpondo limites com doadores falecidos: transplantes bem-sucedidos com rins de doador com creatinina sérica igual a 13,1 mg/dL Overcoming limits with deceased donors: successful renal transplantations from a donor with serum creatinine of 13.1 mg/dL

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Nephrology, 2010
Doadores falecidos não limítrofes com insuficiência renal aguda podem ser uma opção segura para aumentar a oferta de rins para transplante. A avaliação histológica é fundamental para o estabelecimento do prognóstico funcional desses enxertos.
