Regeneration of Periodontal Tissues: Guided Tissue Regeneration

Dental Clinics of North America, 2010
The concept that only fibroblasts from the periodontal ligament or undifferentiated mesenchymal cells have the potential to re-create the original periodontal attachment has been long recognized. Based on this concept, guided tissue regeneration has been applied with variable success to regenerate periodontal defects.

Guided tissue regeneration

British Dental Journal, 1991
One of the main goals of periodontal therapy is the predictable regeneration of the periodontium by allowing repopulation of periodontal ligament cells into the wound area after surgery and preventing the colonisation of the exposed root surface with epithelial, gingival, and bone cells.

Regeneration of corneal tissue

Developmental Biology, 1977
Abstract Penetrating wounds in rabbit corneas heal to form an opaque tissue that eventually becomes transparent. DNA content, dry weight, water content, and collagen content of the tissue gradually become more like that of normal cornea. The healing tissues also synthesize low-sulfated keratan sulfate, hyaluronic acid, and heparan sulfate.

Regeneration of Periodontal Tissues

Advances in Dental Research, 1988
To elucidate the regenerative capability of the periodontal tissues, we carried out two experiments: (1) Regeneration of the gingival tissue following gingivectomy in rats. Ultrastructurally, regenerating junctional epithelium was similar in morphology to that of untreated animals and appeared to attach to the enamel after five days.

Adipose Tissue Regeneration

Current Stem Cell Research & Therapy, 2010
The repair of soft tissue defects, particularly after trauma and oncologic surgery, represents a major clinical challenge. While current reconstructive procedures can move soft tissue from other areas of the body, there remains an unmet need for new modalities that are less invasive and more precise.

Cord blood for tissue regeneration

Journal of Cellular Biochemistry, 2009
AbstractUmbilical cord blood (CB) has become a commonly accepted source of hematopoietic stem cells for transplantation in children and adults. It is readily available and outperforms bone marrow (BM) as well as peripheral blood stem cells in terms of tolerance for HLA‐mismatches between donor and recipient and its decreased graft‐versus‐host disease ...
