The Reaction Titanite+Kyanite=Anorthite+Rutile and Titanite-Rutile Barometry in Eclogites

Contributions to Mineralogy and Petrology, 1991
Titanite and rutile are a common mineral pair in eclogites, and many equilibria involving these phases are potentially useful in estimating pressures of metamorphism. We have reversed one such reaction, $$\begin{gathered} {\text{CaTiSiO}}_{\text{5}} {\text{ + Al}}_{\text{2}} {\text{SiO}}_{\text{5}} = {\text{CaAl}}_{\text{2}} {\text{Si}}_{\text{2}} {\

A thermobarometer for sphene (titanite)

Contributions to Mineralogy and Petrology, 2007
Sphene and zircon are common accessory minerals in metamorphic and igneous rocks of very different composition from many different geological environments. Their essential structural constituents, Ti and Zr, are capable of replacing each other to some degree.

Zr diffusion in titanite

Contributions to Mineralogy and Petrology, 2006
Chemical diffusion of Zr under anhydrous, pO2-buffered conditions has been measured in natural titanite. The source of diffusant was either zircon powder or a ZrO2–Al2O3–titanite mixture. Experiments were run in sealed silica glass capsules with solid buffers (to buffer at NNO or QFM).

On the Formation of Titanite

Crystal Research and Technology, 1991
AbstractThe formation of titanite (CaTiSiO5) out of the starting materials quartz and titanate (CaTiO3) is investigated in dependence on the mechanical activation. The formation temperature may be lowered by the use of mechanically disturbed quartz.

Radiation damage in natural titanites

Physics and Chemistry of Minerals, 1985
Natural titanites which have incurred radiation damage from the decay, over geologic time, of U and Th incorporated in the samples have been studied by powder X-ray diffraction, differential thermal analysis and infrared spectroscopy. In agreement with previous studies of ionirradiated synthetic titanite, X-ray diffraction indicated that titanite is ...

FERRO-TITANIT NIKRO 143

Alloy Digest, 2018
Abstract Ferro-Titanit Nikro 143 is one of a series of metal-matrix composites manufactured by a powder metallurgy process and is a range of carbide-alloyed materials from Deutsche Edelstahlwerke. The Nikro 143 grade is an iron-base alloy containing 30 wt.% titanium carbide.

FERRO-TITANIT C-SPEZIAL

Alloy Digest, 2018
Abstract FERRO-TITANIT C-SPEZIAL is one of a series of metal-matrix composites manufactured by a powder metallurgy process. Ferro-Titanit C-SPEZIAL contains 33% titanium carbide, one of the hardest and most resistant carbides. Because of its high wear resistance and low tendency towards cold welding, Ferro-Titanit is particularly used in

Calorimetric baseline fitting: Application to titanite

Phase Transitions, 1999
Abstract In order to analyse calorimetric measurements of a phase transition, it is necessary to determine the baseline from which the excess specific heat is measured. In this study, this baseline is determined by using the constraint that the resulting heat capacity anomaly must be consistent with measurements of the phase transition by other ...
