Development and characterization of in‐situ nickel aluminide reinforced Al‐Si matrix composites by stir casting

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 6, Issue 12, December 2024.
The graphical abstract demonstrates that adding 9 wt% nickel to an Al‐Si matrix composite increases hardness by 25.93%, tensile strength by 40.3%, and density by 6.01%, but decreases impact strength by 50% compared to the A413 alloy. It includes SEM images, a stir casting schematic, and data on tensile and impact behavior.

Hot corrosion Type I of novel Co‐based γ/γ′ superalloys with and without Al‐ and Cr‐diffusion coatings

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, Volume 75, Issue 12, Page 1583-1599, December 2024.
Hot corrosion is encountered in turbine engines, where Co‐based superalloys are proposed to replace Ni‐based materials. In the present study, the hot corrosion resistance of γ/γ′ superalloys of the Co–Ni–Al–W alloys was increased by their Co and W content.

Short Term Oxidation of a Ti-46Al-8Nb Alloy at 700°C in Air [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Thermogravimetry was used to study the oxidation behaviour of a lamellar Ti46Al8Nb alloy during holding at 700°C in synthetic air. A parabolic plot of the oxidation kinetics shows three different regimes over the total duration (50 h) of the tests ...

Knudsen effusion mass spectrometry: Current and future approaches

open access: yesRapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, Volume 38, Issue 14, 30 July 2024.
Rationale Knudsen effusion mass spectrometry (KEMS) has been a powerful tool in physical chemistry since 1954. There are many excellent reviews of the basic principles of KEMS in the literature. In this review, we focus on the current status and potential growth areas for this instrumental technique.

Preparation and Characterization of Ti‐6‐4 and Ti‐8‐1‐1 Metal Matrix Composites with High Specific Stiffness Using Powder Hot Extrusion and Arc Remelting

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 26, Issue 14, July 2024.
Powder hot extrusion and heat treatment of titanium metal matrix composite's lead to high specific stiffnesses of 34.6 GPa cm3 g−1. Remelting, to simulate an additive manufacturing method, of these materials results in severe changes of the microstructure and a decrease in the mechanical properties even with ex situ reinforcements. Titanium alloys with
