It has been established that titanium diboride experiences partial oxidation during sintering. The phase composition of the low-temperature oxidation products of titanium diboride has been determined. The intensity of oxidation is a maximum at 500°C, which is linked with a specific character of growth of oxide films on titanium diboride.

On the failure of shocked titanium diboride
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2000The failure of brittle materials in uniaxial compressive shock loading has been the subject of much recent discussion. For instance, the physical interpretation of the yield point, the Hugoniot elastic limit (HEL), is not explained in brittle materials. Titanium diboride is known to exhibit an anomalous Hugoniot containing cusps at 4.5–7 and 13–17 GPa.
