Titanium Corrosion in Peri-Implantitis [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials, 2020
Titanium (Ti) corrodes clinically in the presence of bacteria. We investigated this phenomenon as a function of Ti particles found in biopsied tissues around peri-implantitis sites and surface roughness of failed Ti implants. Tissue biopsies were surgically collected from peri-implantitis sites, processed, and embedded in resin.

Mineralization of Titanium Surfaces: Biomimetic Implants [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials, 2021
The surface modification by the formation of apatitic compounds, such as hydroxyapatite, improves biological fixation implants at an early stage after implantation. The structure, which is identical to mineral content of human bone, has the potential to be osteoinductive and/or osteoconductive materials.

Osseointegration of zirconia implants compared with titanium: an in vivo study

open access: yesHead & Face Medicine, 2008
Background Titanium and titanium alloys are widely used for fabrication of dental implants. Since the material composition and the surface topography of a biomaterial play a fundamental role in osseointegration, various chemical and physical surface ...

Analysis of Stress and Fracture Strength of Zirconia Implants after Cyclic Loading [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2015
The aim of this study was to manufacture a new zirconia implant (Y-TZP) and to evaluate the fracture strength and stresses generated after cyclic loading compared to titanium implants. Thirty-three zirconia and titanium implants were fabricated.

Implant Supported Fixed Dental Prostheses Using a New Monotype Zirconia Implant—A Case Report

open access: yesDentistry Journal, 2015
Currently, titanium or specific titanium alloys are the most often used materials for the fabrication of dental implants. Many studies have confirmed the osseointegrative capacity and clinical long-term performance of moderately rough titanium implants ...

Exposure of titanium implants after cranioplasty: A matter of long-term consequences

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Neurosurgery, 2017
Although the use of titanium implants in cranioplasty has recently become common, long-term results of this strategy are sometimes difficult to manage. The aim of this study was to clarify the characteristics of patients developing exposure of titanium ...

A Finite Element Analysis of Peri-implant Stresses Surrounding Zirconium and Titanium Dental Implants

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy and Bioallied Sciences
Introduction: Stresses tend to vary depending on the kind of implant material (titanium or zirconium) because of differences in their mechanical and physical characteristics.
