Antibacterial Coatings on Titanium Implants

Journal of Biomedical Materials Research - Part B Applied Biomaterials, 2009
AbstractTitanium and titanium alloys are key biomedical materials because of their good biocompatibility and mechanical properties. Nevertheless, infection on and around titanium implants still remains a problem which is usually difficult to treat and may lead to eventual implant removal.

Intraoral titanium implants

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1959
Abstract Titanium.—The importance of the relative abundance of this metal has been almost overshadowed by the problems associated with recovering it from its ore in a form of high enough purity to take advantage of its properties. Titanium is light in weight with a strength comparable to steel, giving a greater strength-to-weight ratio than any of ...

Osseointegration of titanium implants

Acta Orthopaedica Scandinavica, 1986
Forty-eight screws, six double cylindrical implants and six T-plates were inserted into the tibia or femur of 6 dogs. Two titanium screws were inserted into the proximal tibia of 5 patients to anchor a titanium mould. The implants were removed en bloc with adjacent bone tissue after 3 to 14 months.

Acid pretreatment of titanium implants

Biomaterials, 2003
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of several methods of cleaning titanium surfaces as pretreatment for surface modifications by analyzing the chemical interaction of three acids, such as Na(2)S(2)O(8),H(2)SO(4) and HCl, followed by rinsing with acetone or ultrapure water.

The Biological Aging of Titanium Implants

Implant Dentistry, 2012
Despite the substantial contribution of titanium implants in the field of dental and orthopedic reconstructive therapy, there is a crucial unaddressed question of why bone-implant contact does not reach the ideal 100%. This review article introduces the recently reported time-dependent reduction in osteoconductivity and other biological capabilities of
