Impedance-based in vitro eye irritation testing enables the categorization of diluted chemicals

open access: yesScientific Reports
Products containing chemicals with eye irritation potential need to be labeled with the respective hazard symbol. To avoid the testing of numerous dilutions of chemicals on animals, their labeling is directed by a theoretical approach.

Degradation of lansoprazole and omeprazole in the aquatic environment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Lansoprazole and omeprazole degrade in water leading to sulfides, benzimidazolones and a red complex material. Degradation is accelerated in acid medium and by solar simulator irradiation.

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Sphingomyelin metabolism is involved in the differentiation of MDCK cells induced by environmental hypertonicity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Sphingolipids (SLs) are relevant lipid components of eukaryotic cells. Besides regulating various cellular processes, SLs provide the structural framework for plasma membrane organization.

Mass spectrometry based identification of AMP‐O‐Tris generated by Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Isolated Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10 generates the noncanonical ATP‐derived product AMP‐O‐Tris while in Tris‐containing buffer as identified via mass spectrometry, revealing relaxed nucleophile selectivity under isolated conditions. These findings suggest that multiprotein Csm complex assembly restricts Cas10 reactivity toward canonical cyclic ...

A New Feed-Forward Control for Dynamics Improvement in a Dual-Input DC–DC Converter for Hybrid Vehicle Applications

open access: yesEnergies
In this study, a double-input single-output bidirectional DC–DC converter is considered. This particular architecture allows less switches to be used than a conventional solution.

Productivity estimated as in vivo chlorophyll a fluorescence and biochemical composition in Chlorella fusca (Chlorophyta) grown in outdoor thin-layer cascades [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The photosynthetic performance by using in vivo chlorophyll a florescence, biomass composition and productivity of three cultures of Chlorella fusca (Chlorophyta) grown in thin-layer cascades (TLCs) in different locations and time of the year were ...

Enhancing Optoelectronic Properties in Phthalocyanine‐Based SURMOFs: Synthesis of ABAB Linkers by Avoiding Statistical Condensation with Tailored Building Blocks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A novel phthalocyanine (PC)‐based metal–organic framework (MOFs) is synthesized using ditopic PC linkers obtained through regioselective statistical condensation. The resulting MOF exhibits significant improvements in electronic absorption, thereby enhancing the material's performance in light harvesting and energy conversion.
