Syrinx anatomy and vocalizations in New World vultures (Aves: Cathartidae): Implications for avian vocal evolution

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
New World vultures are the only avian clade proposed to lack a syrinx and have been described as non‐vocal. Using dissection, diceCT, and histology, we demonstrate that cathartid vultures have novel syringeal features that form a syrinx and vocal characterization reveals that they produce more complex vocalizations than previously reported.

Interannual Variations of TOA Albedo over the Arctic, Antarctic and Tibetan Plateau in 2000–2019

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
Recent changes in Earth’s climate system have significantly affected the radiation budget and its year-to-year variations at top of the atmosphere (TOA). Observing high-latitude TOA fluxes is still challenging from space, because spatial inhomogeneity of

Measurement and modeling of diffuse ultraviolet radiation: A review

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
Solar UV radiation consists of direct and diffuse UV components. The diffuse component contributes to the exposure received by humans and to the risk of skin cancer and sun‐related eye disorders. This review aims to determine future research directions for the measurement and modeling of diffuse solar UV radiation.

Sir and Guys in 20th‐ and 21st‐Century American English

open access: yesWorld Englishes, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper examines the diachronic development of formal and informal address and reference terms in American English as an effect of democratization using the COHA corpus (1900–2020). In focus are two address/reference terms with especially drastic frequency trends in the timespan investigated: the honorific sir, which declines sharply from ...

Model of human body influence on UWB ranging error

open access: yesTongxin xuebao, 2017
Based on UWB channel,in which human body occlusion application scenarios, the influence of human body on TOA range error by measurement and analysis of TOA ranging error was studied. The TOA ranging error model caused by single side of human body through ...

Resolving Taxonomic Boundaries in the New Zealand Senecio matatini Complex (Senecioneae, Asteraceae): Evidence from Genotyping by Sequencing of Limestone‐Associated Forms

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Botany, Volume 64, Issue 3, September 2026.
The Senecio matatini complex in New Zealand has a convoluted taxonomic and nomenclatural history that has not been fully resolved. This is largely due to the incomplete sampling of morphologically diverse but highly threatened limestone populations in the eastern South Island in previous genetic studies.

Seasonal Patterns and Environmental Drivers of Seagrass (Zostera muelleri) Flowering in Aotearoa New Zealand: Implications for Seed‐Based Restoration

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Marine and Freshwater Research, Volume 60, Issue 3, September 2026.
Seagrass flowering underpins seed‐based restoration and is governed by the interaction of multiple abiotic and biotic drivers operating across a range of temporal and spatial scales. In New Zealand/Aotearoa, flowering was historically considered rare, but emerging evidence indicates it is more widespread than previously recognised, creating new ...
