On Using Chatbots to Promote Smoking Cessation Among Adolescents of Low Socioeconomic Status [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Reducing youth tobacco use is critical for improving child health since tobacco use is associated with respiratory problems, and nicotine may interfere with healthy brain development. While tobacco regulation has contributed to declines in cigarette use among youth, these declines have occurred more quickly for youth of high socioeconomic status (SES ...

Unveiling Salt Tolerance Mechanisms in Plants: Integrating the KANMB Machine Learning Model With Metabolomic and Transcriptomic Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Salt stress endangers coastal cereal crops, requiring resilient crop solutions. This study employs machine learning (KANMB) to analyze multi‐omics data from halophyte Spartina alterniflora, revealing 226 salt‐stress biomarkers and linking them to tolerance pathways. The MYB gene SaMYB35 regulates flavonoid biosynthesis under salinity.

The MdHB7L–MdICE1L–MdHOS1 Module Fine‐Tunes Apple Cold Response via CBF‐Dependent and CBF‐Independent Pathways

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In early cold response, MdICE1L utilizes MdHB7L as a cofactor to facilitate the transcriptional activation of MdCBFs, thereby activating cold signaling rapidly and strongly. Subsequently, MdICE1L is degraded by MdHOS1. Meanwhile, MdHB7L is released and accumulates.

Effects of green manuring on chemical characteristics and microecology of tobacco-growing soil in central henan

open access: yesBMC Microbiology
Objective This study explored green manuring effects on microecology, carbon/nitrogen levels, and enzyme activity in tobacco-growing soils. Methods After 30,000 kg·hm⁻² overpressure and 28 days of natural decomposition, plants (Hordeum vulgare L.

Dynamic Cap‐Mediated Substrate Access and Potent Inhibitor Design of Monkeypox Virus I7L Protease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The first crystal structure of MPXV I7L protease, revealing its unique dimeric form is resolved. The structures and MD simulations uncovered a dynamic cap region that regulates substrate access to the active site. The structural basis of substrate recognition and the catalytic mechanism are elucidated, which led to the development of a FRET‐based assay

Generative Learning of Counterfactual for Synthetic Control Applications in Econometrics [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
A common statistical problem in econometrics is to estimate the impact of a treatment on a treated unit given a control sample with untreated outcomes. Here we develop a generative learning approach to this problem, learning the probability distribution of the data, which can be used for downstream tasks such as post-treatment counterfactual prediction

Genetic Regulation of Alternative Polyadenylation Provides Novel Insights into Molecular Mechanisms Underlying Non‐small Cell Lung Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Compared with the non‐risk G allele of rs9606, the risk T allele of rs9606 decreases the binding affinity of NUDT21 for LYRM4, triggering 3'UTR shortening that stabilizes LYRM4 mRNA and elevates its expression. Increased LYRM4 expression promoted malignant phenotypes of non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells through modulating ferroptosis, supporting
