Model reduction techniques in tokamak modelling
Proceedings of the 36th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2002In present tokamak experiments, there is the need of sufficiently detailed models describing the plasma behaviour and its electromagnetic coupling with the active and metallic structures for simulation and control design. The required level of detail yields linearized model of the system at particular working points of very high order, thus ...

Dust in tokamaks: An overview of the physical model of the dust in tokamaks code
Physics of Plasmas, 2010The dynamical behavior of dust produced in tokamaks is an important issue for fusion. In this work, the current status of the dust in tokamaks (DTOKS) [J. D. Martin et al., Europhys Lett. 83, 65001 (2008)] dust transport code will be presented. A detailed description of the various elements of its underlying physical model will be given together with ...

Resistive equilibrium model in a Tokamak
Plasma Physics, 1971The quasi-stationary state of the plasma in a tokamak is determined by associating to the equations of magnetohydrodynamic equilibrium, Ohm's law (with a tensor conductivity varying as \(T^{3/2}\)), the equation of state, and a linear relation between the relative between the relative gradients of temperature and of density. The various quantities of a

Electromagnetic Models of Plasma Breakdown in the JET Tokamak
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2014This paper presents the electromagnetic modeling of the plasma current breakdown phase of the JET tokamak. The first part of this paper models the presence of the JET iron core up-down asymmetry and the effects of the eddy currents in the reconstruction of the magnetic topology needed for the plasma start. The second part describes the approach used to

Model of Nonlocal Effects in Tokamaks
Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 1996Summary: Recent experiments have demonstrated strong nonlocal effects in tokamaks, that apparently cannot be explained by conventional transport theories. In this letter the observed rapid changes in temperature are interpreted on dynamical grounds, by analyzing the adiabatic response, under an appropriate global constraint, of a certain family of ...

Modelling dust transport in tokamaks
EPL (Europhysics Letters), 2008The DTOKS code, which models dust transport through tokamak plasmas, is described. The floating potential and charge of a dust grain in a plasma and the fluxes of energy to and from it are calculated. From this model, the temperature of the dust grain can be estimated.

Models for the development of the discharge in a tokamak
Nuclear Fusion, 1983Numerical models for the development of the discharge in a tokamak are considered. A hybrid model which describes the diffusion and convective processes and also the impurity radiation is used as the basis for a detailed study of the filling-gas ionization stage, the formation of the hot plasma column during the period of total current rise and the ...

An enhanced tokamak startup model
Physics of Plasmas, 2017The startup of tokamaks has been examined in the past in varying degree of detail. This phase typically involves the burnthrough of impurities and the subsequent rampup of plasma current. A zero-dimensional (0D) model is most widely used where the time evolution of volume averaged quantities determines the detailed balance between the input and loss of

Recent advances in Tokamak modelling
IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics. Proceedings. ISIE'98 (Cat. No.98TH8357), 2002In this paper we present some of our Tokamak modelling work. We describe how basic physical principles may be used to derive a simple Tokamak model and then discuss how the number of states in this model may be reduced. A major advance in this work has been the creation of system identified models of a Tokamak in Switzerland.

Tokamak Transport Simulation Models
Nuclear Science and Engineering, 1977The Oak Ridge Tokamak Transport Code is described. This code computes the number, momentum, and energy balance for particles and follows the evolution of tokamak poloidal and toroidal felds. The magnetic geometry is two dimensional, with solutions of the Grad-Shafranov equation providing flux surface topology.
