Nuclear Fusion, 1973
Solutions are given for axisymmetric MHD-equilibria obtained by superposing the magnetic field of the plasma currents and the field of current-carrying conductors situated outside the plasma. These equilibria were numerically calculated by several different iteration methods for solving the non-linear free boundary problem.

Tokamak and Spherical Tokamak Research in Japan
Fusion Science and Technology, 2007Japanese tokamak and spherical tokamak (ST) research programs are described. Tokamak research will focus on steady state high β (β N = 3.5-5.5) research on JT-60SA (formerly NCT) in support of ITER and DEMO. JT-60SA will also serve as the Satellite Tokamak under the JA-EU Broader Approach framework. ST research has been reorganized as the All-Japan ST

The role of the spherical tokamak in clarifying tokamak physics
Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 1999The spherical tokamak (ST) provides a unique environment in which to perform complementary and exacting tests of the tokamak physics required for a burning plasma experiment of any aspect ratio, while also having the potential for long-term fusion applications in its own right.

The Topology of Tokamak Orbits*
Nuclear Fusion, 1979Guiding-centre orbits in non-circular axisymmetric tokamak plasmas are studied in the constants of motion (COM) space of (v, ζ, ψm. Here, v is the particle speed, ζ is the pitch angle with respect to the parallel equilibrium current, J||, at the point in the orbit where ψ = ψm, and ψm is the maximum value of the poloidal flux function (increasing from ...

Real-time systems in tokamak devices. A case study: The JET tokamak
2010 17th IEEE-NPSS Real Time Conference, 2010The achievement of the required performances during the operation of large fusion experimental reactors, is strictly related to the flexibility and reliability of the real-time infrastructures. It turns out that, in tokamak reactors, the real-time infrastructure has to be designed so as to meet a number of common requirements.

Time-resolved spectroscopy in the Rijnhuizen Tokamak Project tokamak
Fusion Engineering and Design, 1997Abstract At the Rijnhuizen 'rokamak Project tokamak spectrometers are used to diagnose the velocity distribution and abundances of impurity ions. Quantities can be measured as a function of time, and the temporal resolution depends on the line emissivity and can be as good as 0.2 ms for the strongest lines.

Equilibrium and stability of tokamaks
International Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, 1990AbstractAxisymmetric, ideal MHD configurations with steady flow are computed by the finite‐element method. Rectangular elements with four to nine nodes are used. The equilibria are obtained in flux co‐ordinates by mesh rearrangement. The properties of the linearized motions around an equilibrium state are studied by a normal‐mode analysis.

Density fluctuations in the TORTUR Tokamak
Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 1992Quantitative measurements of the electron density fluctuation spectra, S(omega, k), are presented as a result of collective scattering measurements with 2 mm waves at various radial positions in the equatorial plane of the TORTUR Tokamak plasma. The spectra are determined in a wide frequency range up to 100 MHz and in a k-range between 400 and 4400 m-1
