Studies on tolonium chloride labeled with radioiodine

open access: closedJournal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry, 2010
Tolonium chloride is a common reagent in the diagnosis of oral premalignant and malignant lesions. This study establishes the optimal preparation of radioiodinated tolonium chloride (RTC) and evaluate its radiochemical and biological characteristics. Instant thin layer chromatography (ITLC), ion exchange chromatography (IC), paper electrophoresis, and ...

Disinfection of clinical materials using photo-activated tolonium chloride solution

open access: closedInternational Journal of Medical Engineering and Informatics, 2011
Photo-activated disinfection is beginning to be used in dental surgery to treat deep seated bacterial infection. It works by combining a photosensitiser and light of a specific frequency to generate singlet oxygen which is toxic to many types of bacteria.

Use of Tolonium Chloride in the Diagnosis of Malignant Gastric Ulcers

open access: closedArchives of Surgery, 1978
Peroral staining with tolonium chloride (toluidine blue) was performed in 45 patients with suspected gastric ulcer disease. During endoscopy, 19 of 21 malignant ulcers and one of 15 benign ulcers were stained. Following surgery, 18 of 21 malignant ulcers found in the surgical specimens were stained.

Methylene blue or tolonium chloride antagonism of sodium nitrite induced methemoglobinemia

open access: closedJournal of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 1979
Methylene blue is widely accepted as an antidote for nitrite toxicosis because of its ability to stimulate reduction of methemoglobin (ferrihemoglobin) to hemoglobin. It is usually used only in low dosage (4mg/kg) because of its purported enhancement of methemoglobin formation in high dosages.

Disinfection of Surgical Materials Using Photo-Activated Tolonium Chloride

open access: closed, 2009
Photo-activated disinfection is a technique which has recently become available for use in disinfection in dentistry. This technique makes use of the dye toluidine blue O coupled to a low powered laser to generate singlet oxygen which kills the bacteria without harming the patient.
