Diagnosis of Oral Cancer With Deep Learning. A Comparative Test Accuracy Systematic Review

open access: yesOral Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To directly compare the diagnostic accuracy of deep learning models with human experts and other diagnostic methods used for the clinical detection of oral cancer. Methods Comparative diagnostic studies involving patients with photographic images of oral mucosal lesions (cancer or non‐cancer) were included.

A novel approach to enhance resistance to vascular disease by expressing cell‐death‐inducing fungal elicitors in the xylem tissue

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
Summary Constitutive expression of hypersensitive cell‐death‐inducing effectors secreted by pathogens has proved to be difficult in plants. Herein, xylem‐specific promoters (PVND7 or PVND2) were utilized to express three cell‐death‐inducing proteins (FocSIX1A, FocSIX6 or TvSm1) of fungal origin in banana plants.

Modulating the activity of the APC/C regulator SISAMBA improves the sugar and antioxidant content of tomato fruits

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
Summary The Anaphase‐Promoting Complex/Cyclosome (APC/C) is an E3 ubiquitin ligase that plays a crucial role in ubiquitin‐dependent proteolysis of key cell cycle regulators, which is completed by the 26S proteasome. Previously, SAMBA, a plant‐specific regulator of the APC/C, was identified in Arabidopsis as a critical factor controlling organ size ...

Calcium disrupts CML38/WRKY46‐NAC187‐CCR cascade to inhibit the formation of lignin‐related physiological disorders in pear fruit

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
Summary Hard‐end, superficial scald and cork spot are prevalent physiological disorders in pear fruit, characterized by an increase in lignin deposition, which impairs the fruit quality and reduces farmer income. Although calcium deficiency is known to exacerbate symptoms of these lignin‐related disorders, the underlying mechanisms remain poorly ...
