Tomato yellow leaf curl disease caused by the whitefly-transmitted begomovirus (genus Begomovirus, family Geminiviridae) Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV) is one of the most damaging diseases of tomato. TYLCV was introduced into the New World in the early 1990s and by the late 1990s, it was found in Florida (2).

Geminiviruses cause devastating diseases in solanaceous crops, with the bipartite begomoviruses tomato yellow leaf curl Kanchanaburi virus (TYLCKaV) and pepper yellow leaf curl Thailand virus (PYLCThV) major threats in Southeast Asia. To determine the molecular mechanism of geminivirus infection, we constructed infectious clones of TYLCKaV and PYLCThV.

Tomato Yellow Leaf Curl Sardinia Virus Increases Drought Tolerance of Tomato
Drought stress is one of the major physiological stress factors that adversely affect agricultural production, altering critical features of plant growth and metabolism. Plants can be subjected simultaneously to abiotic and biotic stresses, such as drought and viral infections.

Geminiviruses (family Geminiviridae) possess single-stranded circular DNA genomes that are replicated by cellular polymerases in plant host cell nuclei. In their hosts, geminivirus populations behave as ensembles of mutant and recombinant genomes, known ...

First Report of Tomato yellow leaf curl virus in Tomato in the Netherlands
Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV) is an economically important virus with tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) as its main host. The virus is widely distributed in subtropical areas and is transmitted by the tobacco whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) in a persistent manner.

Geminiviruses employ host DNA glycosylases to subvert DNA methylation-mediated defense
Plants tightly regulate DNA methylation to regulate gene expression. Here, the authors show that the tomato yellow leaf curl China virus βC1 protein interacts with plant DNA glycosylases to promote demethylation of viral DNA and promote virulence.
