The complex mode of action of the topoisomerase II inhibitor etoposide in triggering apoptosis involves several mechanisms: overexpression of the mitochondrial protein VDAC1, leading to its oligomerization and formation of a large channel that mediates the release of pro‐apoptotic protein; and overexpression of the apoptosis regulators p53, Bax, and ...

Frequency Offset Estimation for OFDM Systems with a Novel Frequency Domain Training Sequence [PDF]
A novel frequency domain training sequence and the corresponding carrier frequency offset (CFO) estimator are proposed for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems over frequency-selective fading channels. The proposed frequency domain training sequence comprises two types of pilot tones, namely distinctively spaced pilot tones with ...

NAD+ regeneration by mitochondrial complex I NADH dehydrogenase is important for cancer cell proliferation. Specifically, NAD+ is necessary for the activities of NAD+‐dependent deacetylases SIRT3 and SIRT7, which suppress the expression of p21Cip1 cyclin‐dependent kinase inhibitor, an antiproliferative molecule, at the translational and transcriptional

Towards Generalizability to Tone and Content Variations in the Transcription of Amplifier Rendered Electric Guitar Audio [PDF]
Transcribing electric guitar recordings is challenging due to the scarcity of diverse datasets and the complex tone-related variations introduced by amplifiers, cabinets, and effect pedals. To address these issues, we introduce EGDB-PG, a novel dataset designed to capture a wide range of tone-related characteristics across various amplifier-cabinet ...

Epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) and tumor‐infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) are associated with early breast cancer response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). This study evaluated EMT and TIL shifts, with immunofluorescence and RNA sequencing, at diagnosis and in residual tumors as potential biomarkers associated with treatment response.

Two-tone spectroscopy of a SQUID metamaterial in the nonlinear regime
Compact microwave resonantors made of superconducting rings containing Josephson junctions (SQUIDs) are attractive candidates for building frequency tunable metamaterials with low losses and pronounced nonlinear properties. We explore the nonlinearity of

Boundary tones and the phonetic implementation of tone in Chichewa
In Chichewa (Bantu, Malawi), there are three differences in fundamental frequency (£0) between questions and statements: (a) questions have a fmal rise, while statements have a final fall, (b) questions do not display the strong downdrift trend found in statements, and (c) questions are produced in a higher pitch range than statements.

Form and meaning co-determine the realization of tone in Taiwan Mandarin spontaneous speech: the case of Tone 3 sandhi [PDF]
In Standard Chinese, Tone 3 (the dipping tone) becomes Tone 2 (rising tone) when followed by another Tone 3. Previous studies have noted that this sandhi process may be incomplete, in the sense that the assimilated Tone 3 is still distinct from a true Tone 2.
