Visually-favorable tone-mapping with high compression performance

2010 IEEE International Conference on Image Processing, 2010
We develop a tone-mapping operator (TMO) that considers the perceptual quality of the tone-mapped image together with the compression efficiency. The proposed TMO is formulated as an optimization problem that incorporates statistical models of i) the quality of the tone-mapped image given a desired TMO, ii) the base layer bit-rate and iii) the ...

Embedding high dynamic range tone mapping in JPEG compression

Proceedings of SPIE, 2013
A method that integrates tone mapping for high dynamic range (HDR) gray-scale images with JPEG compression is proposed. The tone mapping operator (TMO) is block-based, and structured so that the same discrete cosine transform (DCT) that is used for the JPEG compression serves to complete a major part of the tone-mapping operation.

HDR image compression using optimized tone mapping model

2009 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing, 2009
In this paper, we propose a coding algorithm for High Dynamic Range Images (HDRI). Our encoder applies a tone mapping model based on scaled μ-Lawencoding, followed by a conventional Low Dynamic Range Image (LDRI) encoder. The tone mapping model is designed to minimize the difference between the tone mappedHDRI and its LDR version.

Compression Techniques are Lovable or Hateful: For Discrete Tone Images

2018 Second International Conference on Electronics, Communication and Aerospace Technology (ICECA), 2018
The amount of data transmission especially images over internet are rapidly increasing day by day. The effective lossless image compression becomes a greater challenge now than ever. The efficiently compressed images can be useful to remotely access multimedia file at a faster rate with lesser burden on network infrastructure.

Optimizing a Tone Curve for Backward-Compatible High Dynamic Range Image and Video Compression

IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2011
For backward compatible high dynamic range (HDR) video compression, the HDR sequence is reconstructed by inverse tone-mapping a compressed low dynamic range (LDR) version of the original HDR content. In this paper, we show that the appropriate choice of a tone-mapping operator (TMO) can significantly improve the reconstructed HDR quality.
