Pragmatic screening for heart failure in the general population using an electrocardiogram‐based neural network

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, 2023
Aims We aim to develop a pragmatic screening tool for heart failure at the general population level. Methods and results This study was conducted within the Hamburg‐City‐Health‐Study, an ongoing, prospective, observational study enrolling randomly ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

An Investigation of the Adhesive Effect on the Flank Wear Properties of a WC/Co-based TiAlN-Coated Tool for Milling a Be/Cu Alloy

open access: yesMetals, 2019
In this paper, an experimental investigation, based on force special parameters, is adopted to analyze the relationship between the milling tool and adhesive phenomena in milling C17200.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Systematic examination of a heart failure risk prediction tool: The pooled cohort equations to prevent heart failure.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
Identification of individuals at risk for heart failure is needed to deliver targeted preventive strategies and maximize net benefit of interventions. To examine the clinical utility of the recently published heart failure-specific risk prediction model,

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

A qualitative study of a primary-care based intervention to improve the management of patients with heart failure : the dynamic relationship between facilitation and context [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background: There is currently a growing emphasis in primary care on upscaling the provision of evidence-based services for specific conditions, such as heart failure (HF), which have traditionally been seen as part of a specialist’s domain.

Benchmarking and Validation of Cascading Failure Analysis Tools

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2016
Cascading failure in electric power systems is a complicated problem for which a variety of models, software tools, and analytical tools have been proposed but are difficult to verify. Benchmarking and validation are necessary to understand how closely a particular modeling method corresponds to reality, what engineering conclusions may be drawn from a

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.
