Intrameniscal Gouty Tophi in the Knee
JBJS Case Connector, 2015Case: We report a case of recurrent acute arthritis and restricted range of motion in the knee joint, with magnetic resonance imaging subsequently detecting a nodular lesion within the lateral meniscus. Knee arthroscopy and histology revealed that the lesion was intrameniscal gouty tophi.

Current Rheumatology Reports, 2006Gout is a metabolic disorder in which there is hyperuricemia caused by an increase in production or a decrease in excretion of uric acid. Long-lasting hyperuricemia causes the deposition of monosodium urate crystals in the joints and soft tissues, triggering gouty arthritis and, if not properly treated, the formation of gouty tophi.

We report a 57-year-old man with normal renal function who was started on cyclosporine immediately after undergoing bilateral lung transplantation.
