Comparison of the Effect of Propofol Plus IV Lidocaine versus Propofol Plus Topical Lidocaine Spray on Decreasing Gag Reflex in Upper GI Endoscopy: A Clinical Trial

open access: yesArchives of Anesthesia and Critical Care, 2019
Background: Upper GI endoscopy is a diagnostic and therapeutic procedure widely used across the world. Some patients, however, experience a great deal of discomfort during the procedure, which is mainly due to activation of the gag reflex.

Remifentanil or dexmedetomidine for monitored anesthesia care during cataract surgery under topical anesthesia

open access: yesKorean Journal of Anesthesiology, 2012
Cataract surgery is usually performed under topical anesthesia. The procedure is quick and simple to perform and topical anesthesia avoids the potential hazards of a nerve block.

Reinnervation of Muscle Targets Enhances the Separability of Motor Unit Signals Following Peripheral Nerve Transfers

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Injured or cut peripheral nerves can be surgically rerouted to reinnervate new muscle targets. This study demonstrates reinnervated muscles exhibit enhanced separability between individual motor unit signals, which can simplify signal recording and decomposition. These findings highlight the potential of reinnervated muscle to serve as a key biological

Schooling Trajectories and the Development of Brain Dynamics: A Comparative Study of Montessori and Traditional Education

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We investigate whether Montessori and traditional schooling systems shape the developmental trajectory of large‐scale brain dynamics in different ways. We quantify the arrow of time (“non‐reversibility”) in neural activity during resting state and movie‐watching, revealing distinct maturational patterns.

Prmt6 Deficiency or Inhibition Restores Microglial Homeostasis and Promotes Scar‐Limited Repair in Adult Spinal Cord Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
After spinal cord injury, adult microglia remain persistently activated with chronic PRMT6 (protein arginine methyltransferase 6) upregulation. Prmt6 deficiency or inhibition reestablishes microglial homeostasis and promotes a scar‐limited repairment, enhancing axonal regrowth.

A Viscous DES‐AAV‐Foxo1 Delivery System With High Transfection Efficiency for the Treatment of Corneal Endothelial Dysfunction by Restoring Mitochondria‐ER Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
High glucose triggers corneal endothelial dysfunction by impairing FOXO1‐mediated ITPR1 transcription, leading to disrupted mitochondria‐associated membrane (MAM) integrity and defective ER‐to‐mitochondria Ca2+ transfer. This study develops an innovative viscous DES‐AAV‐Foxo1 delivery system with enhanced transfection efficiency. This non‐invasive gene
