Topological data analysis in investment decisions
Expert Systems with Applications, 2020Abstract This article explores the applications of Topological Data Analysis (TDA) in the finance field, especially addressing the primordial problem of asset allocation. Firstly, we build a rationale on why TDA can be a better alternative to traditional risk indicators such as standard deviation using real data sets.

Topological Data Analysis Of Eye Movements
2021 IEEE 18th International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging (ISBI), 2021The increasing use of eye tracking in modern cognitive and clinical psychology, neuroscience, and ophthalmology requires new methods of objective quantitative analysis of complex eye movement data. In the current work, topological data analysis (TDA) is used to extract a new type of features of eye movements to differentiate between two eye movements ...

Topological data analysis and applications
2017 40th International Convention on Information and Communication Technology, Electronics and Microelectronics (MIPRO), 2017Topological data analysis is interested in problems relating to nonlinear systems, large scale data and development of more accurate models, that contribute to a high level research. In the study of time-series data we can identify problems that focus aspects of that nature, with applications to digital disease detection, gene expression, viral ...

Inverse Problems, 2011
Inverse problems can be defined as the area of mathematics that attempts to reconstruct a physical or mathematical object from derived data. Frequently, this means the evaluation of parameters or other numerical quantities (such as eigenvalues) that characterize or provide information about the system.

Topological data analysis in computer vision
Twelfth International Conference on Machine Vision (ICMV 2019), 2020The paper will provide examples of computer vision tasks in which topological data analysis gave new effective solutions. Ideas underlying topological data analysis and its basic methods will be briefly described and illustrated with examples of computer vision problems.

Topological analysis of discrete scalar data
2012This thesis presents a novel computational framework that allows for a robust extraction and quantification of the Morse-Smale complex of a scalar field given on a 2- or 3- dimensional manifold. The proposed framework is based on Forman's discrete Morse theory, which guarantees the topological consistency of the computed complex.

Topological Data Analysis of Biomedical Big Data
2018Technological advances are providing researchers with larger and larger amounts of data, creating a rich landscape for data scientists to explore and search for meaningful patterns. Novel biomedical imaging techniques over the next 5 to 10 years, for instance, will develop their resolution to the point at which single subject scans might provide ...

Classical data processing uses pattern recognition methods such as classification for categorizing data. Such a method may involve a learning process. Modern data science also uses topological methods to find the structural features of data sets. In fact, topological methods should be the first step before the classification method is applied in most ...

Graph Modeling for Topological Data Analysis
2019The importance of bringing the relational data to other models and technologies has been widely debated. In special, Graph Database Management Systems (DBMS) have gained attention from industry and academia for their analytic potential. One of its advantages is to incorporate facilities to perform topological analysis, such as link prediction ...
