Orbifolds and Topological Defects [PDF]

open access: yesCommunications in Mathematical Physics, 2014
We study orbifolds of two-dimensional topological field theories using defects. If the TFT arises as the twist of a superconformal field theory, we recover results on the Neveu-Schwarz and Ramond sectors of the orbifold theory as well as bulk-boundary correlators from a novel, universal perspective.

Topology, defects, and topological defects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The purpose of this Thesis is to theoretically investigate the power of topology on various problems in condensed-matter physics, as well as their possible applications for biological systems. We start the discussions with the so-called Laughlin’s gauge argument, i.e. quantized topological adiabatic transport in the integer quantum Hall cylinder.

Cross-talk between topological defects in different fields revealed by nematic microfluidics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Topological defects are singularities in material fields that play a vital role across a range of systems: from cosmic microwave background polarization to superconductors, and biological materials.

Non-invertible higher-categorical symmetries

open access: yesSciPost Physics, 2023
We sketch a procedure to capture general non-invertible symmetries of a $d$-dimensional quantum field theory in the data of a higher-category, which captures the local properties of topological defects associated to the symmetries.

Topological Acoustic Sensing Using Nonseparable Superpositions of Acoustic Waves

open access: yesVibration, 2022
We introduce a method, topological acoustic sensing, which exploits changes in the geometric phase of nonseparable coherent superpositions of acoustic waves to sense mass defects in arrays of coupled acoustic waveguides.

Scalar fields: from domain walls to nanotubes and fulerenes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
In this work we review some features of topological defects in field theory models for real scalar fields. We investigate topological defects in models involving one and two or more real scalar fields.

Inference of molecular orientation/ordering change nearby topological defects by the neural network function from the microscopic color information

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Topological defects in liquid crystals (LCs) dominate molecular alignment/motion in many cases. Here, the neural network (NN) function has been introduced to predict the LC orientation condition (orientation angle and order parameter) at local positions ...
