Topological finiteness properties of monoids. Part 2: special monoids, one-relator monoids, amalgamated free products, and HNN extensions

open access: yes, 2018
We show how topological methods developed in a previous article can be applied to prove new results about topological and homological finiteness properties of monoids. A monoid presentation is called special if the right-hand side of each relation is equal to $1$.

A left topological monoid associated to a topological groupoid

open access: yes, 2013
This paper presents a fanctor $S$ from the category of groupoids to the category of semigroups. Indeed, a monoid $S_G$ with a right zero element is related to a topological groupoid $G$. The monoid $S_G$ is a subset of $C(G,G)$, the set of all continuous functions from $G$ to $G$, and with the compact- open topology inherited from C(G,G) is a left ...

Topological Degree of Shift Spaces on Monoids

open access: yes, 2018
This paper considers the topological degree of $G$-shifts of finite type for the case where $G$ is a nonabelian monoid. Whenever the Cayley graph of $G$ has a finite representation and the relationships among the generators of $G$ are determined by a matrix $A$, the coefficients of the characteristic polynomial of $A$ are revealed as the number of ...

A differentiable monoid of smooth maps on Lie groupoids

open access: yes
In this article we investigate a monoid of smooth mappings on the space of arrows of a Lie groupoid and its group of units. The group of units turns out to be an infinite-dimensional Lie group which is regular in the sense of Milnor.
