Lecture Notes on Topological Crystalline Insulators

open access: yes, 2018
We give an introduction to topological crystalline insulators, that is, gapped ground states of quantum matter that are not adiabatically connected to an atomic limit without breaking symmetries that include spatial transformations, like mirror or ...

Topological Anderson Insulator in Three Dimensions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Disorder, ubiquitously present in solids, is normally detrimental to the stability of ordered states of matter. In this letter we demonstrate that not only is the physics of a strong topological insulator robust to disorder but, remarkably, under certain

Gapped boundaries and string-like excitations in (3+1)d gauge models of topological phases

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2021
We study lattice Hamiltonian realisations of (3+1)d Dijkgraaf-Witten theory with gapped boundaries. In addition to the bulk loop-like excitations, the Hamiltonian yields bulk dyonic string-like excitations that terminate at gapped boundaries.

Real-space imaging of a topological protected edge state with ultracold atoms in an amplitude-chirped optical lattice

open access: yes, 2016
Topological states of matter, as quantum Hall systems or topological insulators, cannot be distinguished from ordinary matter by local measurements in the bulk of the material.

Microwave studies of the fractional Josephson effect in HgTe-based Josephson junctions

open access: yes, 2018
The rise of topological phases of matter is strongly connected to their potential to host Majorana bound states, a powerful ingredient in the search for a robust, topologically protected, quantum information processing. In order to produce such states, a

Topological insulators and superconductors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Topological insulators are new states of quantum matter which can not be adiabatically connected to conventional insulators and semiconductors. They are characterized by a full insulating gap in the bulk and gapless edge or surface states which are ...

Boundary Hamiltonian theory for gapped topological phases on an open surface

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2018
In this paper we propose a Hamiltonian approach to gapped topological phases on open surfaces. Our setting is an extension of the Levin-Wen model to a 2d graph on an open surface, whose boundary is part of the graph.

Amorphous topological superconductivity in a Shiba glass

open access: yes, 2017
Topological states of matter support quantized nondissipative responses and exotic quantum particles that cannot be accessed in common materials. The exceptional properties and application potential of topological materials have triggered a large-scale ...

From gauge to higher gauge models of topological phases

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2018
We consider exactly solvable models in (3+1)d whose ground states are described by topological lattice gauge theories. Using simplicial arguments, we emphasize how the consistency condition of the unitary map performing a local change of triangulation is

Exotic field theories for (hybrid) fracton phases from imposing constraints in foliated field theory

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2023
Fracton phases of matter are gapped phases of matter that, by dint of their sensitivity to UV data, demand non-standard quantum field theories to describe them in the IR. Two such approaches are foliated quantum theory and exotic field theory.
