Topological Blockade and Measurement of Topological Charge [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2013
The fractionally charged quasiparticles appearing in the 5/2 fractional quantum Hall plateau are predicted to have an extra non-local degree of freedom, known as topological charge. We show how this topological charge can block the tunnelling of these particles, and how such 'topological blockade' can be used to readout their topological charge.

Digital Light Processing of 2D Lattice Composites for Tunable Self‐Sensing and Mechanical Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
The study presents the mechanical and in situ sensing performance of digital light processing‐enabled 2D lattice nanocomposites under monotonic tensile and repeated cyclic loading, and provides guidelines for the design of architectures suitable for strain sensors and smart lightweight structures.

Minimum topological group topologies [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Pure and Applied Algebra, 2017
A Hausdorff topological group topology on a group $G$ is the minimum (Hausdorff) group topology if it is contained in every Hausdorff group topology on $G$. For every compact metrizable space $X$ containing an open $n$-cell, $n\ge2$, the homeomorphism group $H(X)$ has no minimum Hausdorff group topology.

Creep Characterization of Inconel 718 Lattice Metamaterials Manufactured by Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
Herein, the creep characteristics of additively manufactured Inconel 718 metamaterials are investigated. The creep behavior of metamaterials and the effects of microstructural defects are assessed, and the microstructure defects are accurately captured using Kachanov's creep damage model.

Flexural Behavior of Bidirectionally Graded Lattice

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
An experimental study of the bending behavior of bidirectional body‐centered cubic lattice beams is conducted in comparison to uniform and unidirectional counterparts of electron beam melted SS 316 L. Experimental results are used to develop and validate a finite element model which is subsequently used to conduct parametric studies to assess the ...

Equivalence of K-functionals and modulus of smoothness generated by a Dunkl type operator on the interval $(-1, 1)$

open access: yesComptes Rendus. Mathématique, 2023
Our aim in this paper is to show that the modulus of smoothness and the $K$-functionals constructed from the Sobolev-type space corresponding to the Dunkl operator are equivalent on the interval $(-1,1)$.

A Variational Beam Model for Failure of Cellular and Truss‐Based Architected Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
Herein, a versatile and efficient beam modeling framework is developed to predict the nonlinear response and failure of cellular, truss‐based, and woven architected materials. It enables the exploration of their design space and the optimization of their mechanical behavior in the nonlinear regime. A variational formulation of a beam model is presented

New light on Bergman complexes by decomposing matroid types [PDF]

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics & Theoretical Computer Science, 2012
Bergman complexes are polyhedral complexes associated to matroids. Faces of these complexes are certain matroids, called matroid types, too. In order to understand the structure of these faces we decompose matroid types into direct summands.

Topology Optimization of Lattice Support Structure for Cantilever Beams Fabricated Via Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
A numerical scheme is presented to design a lattice support for metallic components additively built via laser powder bed fusion. Results show that thermal‐induced distortion can be respectively reduced by 69%, 58%, and 50% in comparison to a uniform lattice, a fully solid support, and a truss‐based lattice support.
