Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

A MAC based excitation frequency increasing method for structural topology optimization under harmonic excitations

open access: yesInternational Journal for Simulation and Multidisciplinary Design Optimization, 2017
This work is focused on the topology optimization of structures that are subjected to harmonic force excitation with prescribed frequency and amplitude. As an important objective of such a design problem, the natural resonance frequency of the structure ...

Temporal Evolution of the Magnetic Topology of the NOAA Active Region 11158

open access: yes, 2014
We studied the temporal evolution of the magnetic topology of the active region (AR) 11158 based on the reconstructed three-dimensional magnetic fields in the corona.

Copper Nanocrystallization in Anodic Oxide Films of Ti–Cu‐Based Bulk Metallic Glass and Its Effect on the Corrosion Resistance and Cytocompatibility

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Viktoriia Shtefan, Thorgund Nemec, Ute Hempel, Annett Gebert and coworkers demonstrate that anodic treatment of Ti–Cu‐based metallic glass in a nontoxic pyrophosphate electrolyte forms a protective bilayered Ti/Zr‐oxide film enriched with Cu nanocrystals.

A Simple n-Dimensional Intrinsically Universal Quantum Cellular Automaton

open access: yes, 2010
We describe a simple n-dimensional quantum cellular automaton (QCA) capable of simulating all others, in that the initial configuration and the forward evolution of any n-dimensional QCA can be encoded within the initial configuration of the ...

Toward Knowledge‐Based Workflows: A Semantic Approach to Atomistic Simulations for Mechanical and Thermodynamic Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Knowledge‐based atomistic workflows are presented for mechanical and thermodynamic properties. By coupling modular simulations with ontology‐aligned metadata and provenance, Fe case studies on elastic behavior, defects, thermal properties, and Hall–Petch strengthening reveal how FAIR, queryable, and reusable simulation data can be generated. Mechanical

Collaborative configuration for distributed energy storages and cyber systems in low-voltage distribution networks with high penetration of PV systems

open access: yesIET Cyber-Physical Systems, 2019
Energy storage systems (ESSs) have recently been incorporated into low-voltage distribution networks (DNs) for promoting hosting capacity of photovoltaic (PV) systems. On the other hand, applications of information communications technologies enhance the

Molecular Dynamics Studies of Shape Memory Polymers: From Bead–Spring Models to Atomistic Simulations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Coarse‐grained (left) and atomistic (right) models of the shape memory polymer ESTANE ETE 75DT3 are shown schematically. The two representations bridge molecular detail and mesoscopic description. Both models capture shape memory behavior, linking segmental mobility and conformational relaxation of anisotropic chains to macroscopic recovery, and ...

Betti numbers and stability for configuration spaces via factorization homology

open access: yes, 2017
Using factorization homology, we realize the rational homology of the unordered configuration spaces of an arbitrary manifold $M$, possibly with boundary, as the homology of a Lie algebra constructed from the compactly supported cohomology of $M$.

RHODA Topology Configuration Using Bayesian Optimization

open access: yes, 2020
The rapid growth of data center traffic requires data center networks (DCNs) to be scalable, energy-efficient, and provide low latencies. Optical Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) is a promising technique to build data centers comprising millions of servers.
