Optimum topological configurations of sensor networks

open access: yesComputing in Construction, 2019
mportant task in the dynamic assessment of the mechanical systems and its role is central in structural health monitoring. All sensors have to be placed on the structure so that all sought system features be obtained from the experimental tests. Sensors network design is rather diffused in laboratory applications, but there are scarce investigations on

Thermoreflectance Detection of Point Defects Resulting from Focused Ion Beam Milling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Focused ion beam (FIB) milling is a common tool for nanoscale material processing, however irradiation damage, redeposition, and contamination can occur. We use several characterization tools to show FIB‐induced effects beyond 1 mm from the milled area.

Numerical investigation of module-level inhomogeneous ageing in lithium-ion batteries from temperature gradients and electrical connection topologies

open access: yesCommunications Engineering
The distribution of current/voltage can be further regulated by optimising the electrical connection topology, considering a particular battery thermal management systems.

Modular multilevel converter with DHB energy-balancing channels for medium-voltage adjustable-speed drives

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2019
This paper presents a modular multilevel converter (MMC) configuration that utilises energy exchange between sub-modules (SMs) of upper and lower arms, for energy rebalancing.

An automated topological analysis of Multiple Routing Configurations

open access: yes2015 36th IEEE Sarnoff Symposium, 2015
Topological changes in IP networks may significantly influence the performance of networking algorithms, which therefore should be carefully evaluated using a large topology pool with diverse characteristics. In this paper, we present an automated topology generation and analysis tool to perform an elaborate topological dependency analysis of a Multi ...

On the Lightweight Potential of Laser Additive Manufactured NiTi Triply Periodic Minimal Sheet Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the lightweight potential of laser additive‐manufactured NiTi triply periodic minimal surface sheet lattices. It systematically investigates the effects of relative density and unit cell size on surface quality, deformation recovery, compression behavior, and energy absorption.

Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

A first family of stable configurations to model magnetic fields in stellar radiation zones

open access: yes, 2010
We conduct 3D magneto-hydrodynamic (MHD) simulations in order to test the stability of the magnetic equilibrium configuration described by Duez & Mathis (2010).

Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.
