Topologically configurable systems as product families
Proceedings of the 17th International Software Product Line Conference, 2013We address a category of systems whose deployment requires a configuration according to topological information. Although inspired by the case of railway interlocking systems, we give a general definition of topologically configurable control systems. We consider the application of product line engineering principles to the development of these systems,

A topological study of robot free configuration space
Proceedings IROS '91:IEEE/RSJ International Workshop on Intelligent Robots and Systems '91, 2002Studies the topology of the free configuration space (FCS) of any robot that consists of one or more connected rigid bodies and operates in an environment with obstacles. It is shown that if a certain unrestrictive robot-obstacle spatial relationship is satisfied, then FCS is uniformly locally connected (ULC). Conditions are derived under which the FCS

Topology preserving approximation of free configuration space
Proceedings 2006 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2006. ICRA 2006., 2006We present a simple algorithm for approximating the free configuration space of robots with low degrees of freedom (DOFs). We represent the free space as an arrangement of contact surfaces. We approximate the free space using an adaptive volumetric grid that is computed by performing simple geometric tests on the contact surfaces.

Distinguishing 3D-Topological Configurations of Two Tori
2006 Eighth International Symposium on Symbolic and Numeric Algorithms for Scientific Computing, 2006Most of the existing work regarding topology preserving hierarchies is mainly preoccupied with 2D domains. But recently attention has turned to 3D, and more generally, nD representations. Even more than in 2D, the necessity for reducing these representations exists and motivates the research in hierarchical structures i.e. pyramids.

On the Topology of Configurations of Gauge Fields and Higgs Fields
International Journal of Modern Physics A, 2003Starting with the topological classification of gauge fields on the sphere (Dirac monopoles) and of Higgs vacuum configurations (through the second homotopy group of the space of vacuum states), the features of minimum energy solutions to gauge theories with spontaneous symmetry breaking and in the presence of singularities (monopoles) are deduced ...
