Topology optimisation of transient compressible flow
We present the first formulation of topology optimisation for transient compressible flow. We discretise the equations with a discontinuous Galerkin method, due to its similarity to the popular finite volume method, and its capacity to model discontinuities in the flow.

RoundMi: A quantitative method to analyze mitochondrial morphology in mitotic cells
RoundMi is a workflow for rapid analysis of mitochondrial morphology in mitotic cells. By combining adaptive preprocessing with automated segmentation and quantification, it enables accurate measurements from single focal plane images, reducing acquisition time and computational demands while remaining compatible with high‐throughput fixed and live ...

Design of adsorption systems by topology optimisation. [PDF]
Adsorption is a retention mechanism of fluid molecules on solid surfaces and presents a wide range of applications, such as refrigeration, separation processes and fuel storage. This work describes the modelling of gas adsorption on porous media and presents an optimisation approach for the design of adsorption systems based on topology optimisation. A

Topological invariance in whiteness optimisation
Increasing the light scattering efficiency of nanostructured materials is becoming an active field of research both in fundamental science and commercial applications. In this context, the challenge is to use inexpensive organic materials that come with a lower refractive index than currently used mineral nanoparticles, which are under increased ...

Biophysical characterisation shows that NanX, a membrane transport protein from the major facilitator superfamily (MFS), forms both monomers and dimers after purification. AlphaFold modelling and substrate docking provide information on residues likely involved in substrate recognition for NanX and another MFS member, NanT.

Topology Optimisation: Increasing the Speed and Reliability of Design [PDF]
In this paper, topology optimisation is applied to the design of the rear fuselage of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). A comparison is drawn between the performance of a design created through evolutionary structural optimisation (ESO) and a baseline design modelled on a manually designed and successfully flow fuselage geometry, for different wing ...

In this study, a novel esterase from the thermoacidophilic archaeon Thermoplasma acidophilum was biochemically and structurally characterized. Our results demonstrate that Ta0887 is a highly thermostable esterase that preferentially hydrolyzes p‐nitrophenyl hexanoate and possesses an α‐helical cap domain that likely contributes to its substrate ...
