Orbit-cone correspondence for the proalgebraic completion of normal toric varieties [PDF]
summary:We prove that there is an orbit-cone correspondence for the proalgebraic completion of normal toric varieties, which is analogous to the classical orbit-cone correspondence for toric ...

What England Is and What It Claims to Be: Orwell on National Identity
Abstract This article suggests that George Orwell's body of work offers a rather unique and insightful two‐part conception of national identity in the context of England, made up of a moral inheritance—the values of liberty, fairness and decency—and a lived sensibility—the fluid, experiential quality of collective life expressed in shared customs ...

‘Pro‐Germans in the Pulpits’: The Queensland Presbyterian Church and the Great War
During World War I, Protestant churches in Australia, on the whole, enthusiastically supported the war effort. The Queensland Presbyterian Church was a significant exception. This study analyses discord and tensions among its clergymen about what constituted an appropriate response to the war.

The stringy Euler number of Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces in toric varieties and the Mavlyutov duality [PDF]
We show that minimal models of nondegenerated hypersufaces defined by Laurent polynomials with a $d$-dimensional Newton polytope $\Delta$ are Calabi-Yau varieties $X$ if and only if the Fine interior of $\Delta$ consists of a single lattice point.

Irrational Toric Varieties [PDF]
Classical toric varieties are among the simplest objects in algebraic geometry. They arise in an elementary fashion as varieties parametrized by monomials whose exponents are a finite subset A of Zⁿ . They may also be constructed from a rational fan Σ in

School Board Elections in England and Wales, 1870–1902: An Electoral Experiment?
Abstract The 1870 Elementary Education Act enabled the creation of school boards in England and Wales. Members were directly elected by the cumulative vote. This method gave each individual voter as many votes as there were seats on a school board, in some cases up to fifteen.

Polymatroids and moduli of points in flags
We introduce and study different compactifications of the moduli space of n distinct weighted labeled points in a flag of affine spaces. We construct these spaces via the weighted and generalized Fulton-MacPherson compactifications of Routis and Kim-Sato.

Abstract The final Stuart monarch, Queen Anne, has often been overlooked in studies of visual and material culture, particularly of fashion and dress. This article is the first to undertake a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the wardrobe accounts of Queen Anne, situating her consumption within the context of the eighteenth‐century fashion ...

A short proof of the Hanlon-Hicks-Lazarev Theorem
We give a short new proof of a recent result of Hanlon-Hicks-Lazarev about toric varieties. As in their work, this leads to a proof of a conjecture of Berkesch-Erman-Smith on virtual resolutions and to a resolution of the diagonal in the simplicial case.
