Properties of the residual circle action on a toric hyperkahler variety [PDF]
We consider a manifold X obtained by a Kahler reduction of C^n, and we define its hyperkahler analogue M as a hyperkahler reduction of T^*C^n = H^n by the same group.

The KSBA moduli space of stable log Calabi–Yau surfaces
We prove that every irreducible component of the coarse Kollár-Shepherd-Barron and Alexeev (KSBA) moduli space of stable log Calabi–Yau surfaces admits a finite cover by a projective toric variety. This verifies a conjecture of Hacking–Keel–Yu. The proof

Topological Point Defects in SmC* Liquid Crystals Under Mechanical Disturbance
Tangetial air jet shear inducess island formation and nucleates topological point defects in uniform SmC films. Island bounded by edge dislocation loops shrink and transform into isolated point defects under continued shear. Mechanical perturbatio provides a controllable route for defect engineering in smectric liquid crystal thin films.

Conditions for characterization of a toric set as an affne toric variety
From a matrix A with certain characteristics, it is possible to define the toric ideal IA, which in turn gives rise to a toric variety V (IA). The columns of this matrix A, provide a parameterization of a subset of the toric variety, which is called ...

Optical myopia control interventions: Evaluation of methods and success in a real‐world population
Abstract Purpose To explore methods of evaluating success of optical myopia control interventions, and to apply these methods retrospectively to a clinical population. Methods A retrospective cohort study was conducted on pediatric patients attending a United Kingdom myopia clinic and used defocus incorporated multiple segments (DIMS) spectacle lenses,

The integer cohomology of toric Weyl arrangements [PDF]
A toric arrangement is a finite set of hypersurfaces in a complex torus, every hypersurface being the kernel of a character. In the present paper we prove that if T(W) is the toric arrangement defined by the cocharacters lattice of a Weyl group W, then ...

Small toric resolutions of toric varieties of string polytopes with small indices
Let G be a semisimple algebraic group over ℂ. For a reduced word i of the longest element in the Weyl group of G and a dominant integral weight λ, one can construct the string polytope Δi(λ), whose lattice points encode the character of the irreducible ...

ABSTRACT Background Emergence delirium (ED) is a common complication in pediatric anesthesia. Although intranasal dexmedetomidine (DEX) is widely used, its application is constrained by a slow onset, residual risk of ED in some patients, and risks such as bradycardia and hypotension.

The homotopy type of toric arrangements [PDF]
A toric arrangement is a finite set of hypersurfaces in a complex torus, every hypersurface being the kernel of a character. In the present paper we build a CW-complex S homotopy equivalent to the arrangement complement ℜ x, with a combinatorial ...

Vanishing results for the cohomology of complex toric hyperplane complements [PDF]
Suppose R is the complement of an essential arrangement of toric hyperlanes in the complex torus and ? = ?1(R). We show that H*(R;A) vanishes except in the top degree n when A is one of the following systems of local coefficients: (a) a system of ...
