A new approach to find gouge free tool positions for a toroidal cutter for Bézier surfaces in five-axis machining [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2021
Abstract We implement and test a multi-point machining tool positioning technique that positions the tool using only a variation on gouge checking. The result is a method that is roughly twice as fast as an earlier method that performed a numerical search to find a tool position with multiple points of contact with the design surface.

Method of controlling the lead angle of the toroidal cutter axis in 5-axis machining of the turbine blade [PDF]

open access: yesMechanik, 2017
Presented is the own concept control method an lead angle axis of the toroidal cutter, depending on the radius of curvature of the machined sculptured surface profile. The method verified on the example machining of the turbine blade. In order to compare the effects of this method, to the classical method (without adaptation lead angle), tests were ...

Research on parametric modeling and grinding methods of bottom edge of toroid-shaped end-milling cutter [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part B: Journal of Engineering Manufacture, 2017
For a toroid-shaped end-milling cutter to have multi-structure features of tooth offset center and introversion of bottom edge, this article proposes a generalized parametric modeling method of the bottom edge, including a straight edge segment and a circular arc edge segment.

Flexible Pressure Sensor With Co‐Optimized Sensitivity and Linearity Based on Gradient Toroidal Microstructures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A flexible piezoresistive pressure sensor with gradient toroidal CNT/PDMS microstructures is reported. The hierarchical geometry enables sequential electrode contact, achieving a sensitivity of 256.20 kPa−1 and linear response (R2 = 0.99) over 0–1000 kPa.

Strong Photoluminescence Enhancement in All‐Dielectric Ge Thin Film Metasurfaces for Integration on the Si Platform

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Germanium (Ge) all‐dielectric metasurfaces can be leveraged to strongly enhance the radiative emission from Ge layers grown on silicon‐on‐insulator substrates by industry‐standard processes. At room‐temperature, the narrowband photoluminescence (PL) intensity is enhanced by a factor ∼40× with respect to unstructured films.

Multiferroic‐Centric Materials and Systems Engineering for Battery Applications: An Insight Into Mechanisms, Strategies, and Characterizations

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Multiferroic order parameters – polarization, magnetization, and ferroelastic strain – are positioned as dynamic design variables for batteries. Their mechanistic roles, practical tuning through fabrication and external fields, and ferroic‐resolved characterization routes are unified into a closed‐loop framework, revealing how coupled ferroic responses

Recurrence Quantification Analysis (RQA) of Toroidal End Tool Milling Process

open access: yesApplied Sciences
One type of milling process is the face milling of flat surfaces using a toroidal face cutter. A key feature of this process is that changes in the depth of the cut alter the entering angle, impacting milling dynamics by shifting cutting force ...

Chiral Morphing of Liquid Crystal Polymer Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This paper reviews how macroscopic chirality spontaneously arises from liquid crystal polymer materials. It describes how alignment is utilized to create the mechanical anisotropy, geometric misorientation and asymmetry that leads to chiral shape morphing, how shape selection between helicoids and helices arises, the techniques used to prepare these ...
