Maximum-torque-per-ampere control of high torque-density multiphase drives based on induction motors

2012 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2012
It is known that the torque density of multiphase motors can be increased by superimposing high-order spatial harmonics to the fundamental one in the air-gap magnetic field. However, the problem of maximizing the torque capability is still controversial, since the results depend on the constraints that have been considered.

Magnetic-geared motors with high transmission torque density

COMPEL: The International Journal for Computation and Mathematics in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, 2015
Purpose – Early magnetic-geared motors have a high transmission torque density. However, the torque due to the coil is low because the permanent magnets in the stator become a large magnetic resistance when the current is applied to the coil.

High Power/Torque-Density Devices

2020
Mechanical power transmission and handling devices are evaluated according to their power density, or else their torque density if it is not the power that is the issue of primary concern. The combination of high power or torque density with good energy efficiency may collectively be termed high-performance density.

Energy-Efficient MRF-Clutch With Optimized Torque Density

Volume 1: Development and Characterization of Multifunctional Materials; Modeling, Simulation and Control of Adaptive Systems; Integrated System Design and Implementation, 2013
The viscous losses at high rotational speeds in idle mode represent a major drawback for an energy-efficient operation of MRF brakes and clutches. In this paper, an innovative concept is presented that allows a complete torque-free idle mode of the mentioned actuators by the use of a MR-fluid control.

High torque density PM motor for racing applications

2017 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2017
Referring to a 4-wheel drive Formula Student Electric vehicle, a fractional-slot synchronous permanent magnet machine has been designed. Torque density has been improved adopting outer rotor topology and lightweight materials. An ironless rotor with PMs placed in an Halbach array configuration allows reduced rotor inertia to be obtained.

Spin-Torque Driven Switching Probability Density Function Asymmetry

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2012
We studied the spin transfer torque (STT) driven switching voltage distribution systematically by characterizing the switching probability density function (PDF) with large statistics (105 trials) across a wide time scale from 5 ns to 1 μs. The skew normal distribution function is found to be a good one to fit the measured switching PDF down to low ...

Determination of tidal torques independently of densities

Studia Geophysica et Geodaetica, 1986
The components of the tidal torques along the axes of the inertia ellipsoid of a perfectly elastic Earth have been derived quite independently of the density distribution of masses within the Earth. It has been demonstrated that not only the sectorial, but also the tesseral terms in the tidal forming potential are responsible for the tidal deceleration

Torque and Power Density of Coaxial Magnetic Gears

2019 II International Conference on High Technology for Sustainable Development (HiTech), 2019
In the present work, the recent positive trend in torque and power density of the coaxial magnetic gears is discussed. Timeline of magnetic gears development according to design topology and magnetic materials improvements is presented. Five generations of magnetic gears are recognized according to the torque density limitations.

Torque Density Permanent Magnet Machine for Automotive Applications

7th IET International Conference on Power Electronics, Machines and Drives (PEMD 2014), 2014
This paper presents work done on the analysis of a new permanent magnet machine topology using finite element in order to achieve high torque density specifically for an automotive application. Also different types of electric motors that are suitable for automotive applications are shown.

High torque density low speed permanent magnet machine

2011 IEEE International Electric Machines & Drives Conference (IEMDC), 2011
This paper gives different solutions in order to increase torque density of permanent magnets machines. The study deals with low frequency machines and, in this case, iron losses are less important than copper losses, so that supplying the machines with square wave currents can be interesting. The authors identify an original structure in which the end
