The Importance of Biarticular Torque Generators in Torque-Driven Simulation Models

ASME 2012 Summer Bioengineering Conference, Parts A and B, 2012
Forward-dynamics computer simulation models of human movement are typically driven by individual muscle models, or torque generators. In muscle-driven models, muscle parameters are typically determined from experimental data in the literature. While in torque-driven models, subject-specific torque parameters can be determined from torque measurements ...

Torque–stiffness-controlled dynamic walking with central pattern generators

Biological Cybernetics, 2014
Walking behavior is modulated by controlling joint torques in most existing passivity-based bipeds. Controlled Passive Walking with adaptable stiffness exhibits controllable natural motions and energy efficient gaits. In this paper, we propose torque-stiffness-controlled dynamic bipedal walking, which extends the concept of Controlled Passive Walking ...

Mechanics of torque generation during quadrupedal arboreal locomotion

Journal of Biomechanics, 2008
Quadrupedal animals moving on arboreal substrates face unique challenges to maintain stability. The torque generated by the limbs around the long axis of a branch during locomotion may clarify how the animals remain stable on arboreal supports. We sought to determine what strategy gray short-tailed opossums (Monodelphis domestica) use to exert torque ...

Short-circuit torques in turbine-generators

Electrical Engineering, 1959
THE PROBLEM of torsional resonance in turbine-generators is solvable by a number of different methods. Results of the present analysis serve as an approximate, independent check on these solutions. In addition, the effect of changing physical proportions of the unit may be evaluated from the curves.

General magnetostatic shape–shape interaction forces and torques

Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 2009
Expressions for the magnetostatic interaction force and torque between two magnetic objects of arbitrary shape are derived within the shape amplitude formalism. A generalized force is derived as the gradient of the magnetometric tensor field, which is the convolution of the cross-correlation of the object shapes with the dipolar tensor field ...

F-subunit reinforces torque generation in V-ATPase

European Biophysics Journal, 2014
Vacuolar-type H(+)-pumping ATPases (V-ATPases) perform remarkably diverse functions in eukaryotic organisms. They are present in the membranes of many organelles and regulate the pH of several intracellular compartments. A family of V-ATPases is also present in the plasma membranes of some bacteria. Such V-ATPases function as ATP-synthases.

Torque Generation Using Ferroelectric Materials

IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 1965
Exploratory work has been done on a new class of electric motors using electrostatic forces and ferroelectric materials in a manner analogous to the conventional ferromagnetic hysteresis synchronous motor. A simple test motor has been built, yielding confirmation of self-starting, pull-up, and hysteresis synchronous operation.

Electromechanical Device For Braking Torque Impulses Generation

2020 International Conference on Industrial Engineering, Applications and Manufacturing (ICIEAM), 2020
The article deals with the development of an electromechanical device for generating impulses of electromagnetic torque. The device is a generator of mechanical impulses (GMI), designed to apply brake impulses to rotating shafts of technological machines.

Torque generation using synthetic jet actuators

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part E: Journal of Process Mechanical Engineering
This article presents a novel method of utilizing the thrust generated by synthetic jet actuators to generate torque. Piezoelectric-based synthetic jet actuators were used to create a device with two isolated cavities and orifices. Weight balance and hotwire anemometry were used to quantify the thrust generated by the synthetic jet actuator.

Inward Torque and High-Friction Handles Can Reduce Required Muscle Efforts for Torque Generation

Human Factors: The Journal of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, 2008
Objective: The effects of handle friction and torque direction on muscle activity and torque are empirically investigated using cylindrical handles. Background: A torque biomechanical model that considers contact force, friction, and torque direction was evaluated using different friction handles. Methods: Twelve adults exerted hand torque in opposite
