Electric Drive Units: A Set-Up for Investigating Function, Efficiency, and Dynamics

open access: yesVehicles
High-speed electric drive units promise improved power density and, theoretically, driving range of battery electric vehicles. An essential step of the development process is extensive testing of the drive unit on a test rig.

TORQUE MEASUREMENT IN WORM AGLOMERATION MACHINE [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Journal of Silesian University of Technology. Series Transport, 2014
The paper presents the operating characteristics of the worm agglomeration machine. The paper indicates the need for continuous monitoring of the value of the torque due to the efficiency of the machine.

The design and analysis of single flank transmission error tester for loaded gears [PDF]

open access: yes
To strengthen the understanding of gear transmission error and to verify mathematical models which predict them, a test stand that will measure the transmission error of gear pairs under design loads has been investigated.

Reconstructing the intermittent dynamics of the torque in wind turbines

open access: yes, 2014
We apply a framework introduced in the late nineties to analyze load measurements in off-shore wind energy converters (WEC). The framework is borrowed from statistical physics and properly adapted to the analysis of multivariate data comprising wind ...

A Biologically‐Architected Wear and Damage‐Resistant Nanoparticle Coating From the Radular Teeth of Cryptochiton stelleri

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The ultrahard teeth of mollusks that feed on rocky substrates contain a wear‐resistant coating on their surfaces consisting of densely packed mesocrystalline magnetic nanoparticles within an organic matrix. These coatings display significant hardness and toughness through their highly controlled mesocrystalline architectures.

Spin-orbit torques acting upon a perpendicularly-magnetized Py layer

open access: yes, 2018
We show that Py, a commonly-used soft ferromagnetic material with weak anisotropy, can become perpendicularly-magnetized while depositing on Ta buffer layer with Hf or Zr insertion layers (ILs) and MgO capping layer.

Observation of Relativistic Domain Wall Motion in Amorphous Ferrimagnets

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Domain walls in ferrimagnets and antiferromagnets move as relativistic sine‐Gordon solitons, with the spin‐wave velocity setting their speed limit. Such relativistic domain‐wall motion is demonstrated in amorphous GdFeCo near angular momentum compensation, where current‐driven walls reach 90% of the 2 kms−1 spin‐wave speed, enabling ultrafast, device ...
