We study the behaviour of analytic torsion under smooth fibrations. Namely, let F \to E \to^{f} B be a smooth fiber bundle of connected closed oriented smooth manifolds and let $V$ be a flat vector bundle over $E$. Assume that $E$ and $B$ come with Riemannian metrics and $V$ comes with a unimodular (not necessarily flat) Riemannian metric. Let $ _{an}(

Torsion of the Gallbladder [PDF]
A 77-year-old woman was seen with progressive abdominal pain.A CT scan was made and showed a large gallbladder extending into the right lower abdomen. Ultrasound was performed but demonstrated no gallstones. Laparoscopy showed a tordated, necrotic gallbladder that was attached to the liver only by the cystic artery and cystic duct.

Torsion or not torsion, that is the question [PDF]
A hypothesis of general relativity (GR) is that spacetime torsion vanishes identically. This assumption has no empirical support; in fact, a nonvanishing torsion is compatible with all the experimental tests of GR. The first part of this essay specifies the framework that is suitable to test the vanishing-torsion hypothesis, and an interesting ...

This paper achieves, among other things, the following: • It frees the main result of [9] from the hypothesis of determinant class and extends this result from unitary to arbitrary representations. • It extends (and at the same times provides a new proof of) the main result of Bismut and Zhang [3] from finite dimensional representations of Γ to ...

Torsion Elements and Torsionable Hypermodules
This article is motivated by the recently published studies on divisible hypermodules and falls in the area of hypercompositional algebra. In particular, it focuses on the torsion elements in Krasner hypermodules. First, we define the concept of a torsion element over a hypermodule, and based on it, we introduce a new class of hypermodules, namely the ...

One edge of an elastic rod is inserted into a friction-less and fitting socket head, whereas the other edge is subjected to a torque, generating a uniform twisting moment. It is theoretically shown and experimentally proved that, although perfectly smooth, the constraint realizes an expulsive axial force on the elastic rod, which amount is independent ...

Z_NxZ_M orbifold models admit the introduction of a discrete torsion phase. We find that models with discrete torsion have an alternative description in terms of torsionless models. More specifically, discrete torsion can be 'gauged away' by changing the shifts by lattice vectors.

Analytic torsion and Reidemeister torsion [PDF]
We announce a proof of the conjecture of Ray and Singer that for a compact Riemannian manifold the analytic torsion and Reidemeister torsion are equal. The proof involves studying the heat equation for certain manifolds M, equipped with metrics g u , 0 < u

Abstract Modifying the Yang-Mills field strength and using a recently proposed generalisation of the usual minimal coupling procedure allows a simple but non-trivial type of dynamic torsion to couple to all gauge fields in a consistent manner. This allows, for the first time, a framework in which no spinning particle is required to be exempted from ...

Torsion of the vermiform appendix is a rare condition detectable only at operation. It can be primary or secondary. This is a case report of 52-year-old female with 180° anti-clockwise rotation of the appendix. Torsion can further leads to strangulation and infarction of the organ. Appendicular torsion could be included in the differential diagnosis of
