Pre‐Torsion Tubular Metamaterials: Multi‐Effect Integration for Advanced Functional Applications [PDF]
Mechanical metamaterials continuously push the boundaries of mechanical properties far beyond conventional materials. However, a critical step toward the applications of metamaterials lies in combining multiple effects and functionalities into a single ...

The primary benefit of metamaterials is that their physical and mechanical properties can be controlled by changing the structure geometry. Numerical analysis tools used in this work offer a few advantages over full-scale testing, consisting of an ...

Stress/strain data from mechanical testing of samples obtained from “as received” and fire damaged (400 °C and 500 °C) aluminum alloy 6061 plates is reported. Mechanical load information was obtained from load cells in the mechanical testing system while

Mechanics of ventricular torsion
Recent research suggests that left ventricular torsion is an important indicator of cardiac function. We used two theoretical models to study the mechanics of this phenomenon: a compressible cylinder and an incompressible ellipsoid of revolution. The analyses of both models account for large- strain passive and active material behavior, with a muscle ...

Design, dynamics, and dissipation of a torsional-magnetic spring mechanism
We present an analytical and experimental study of torsional magnetic mechanism where the restoring torque is due to magnetic field interactions between rotating and fixed permanent magnets. The oscillator consists of a ball bearing-supported permanent magnet, called the rotor, placed between two fixed permanent magnets called the stators.

“Quasi-complete” mechanical model for a double torsion pendulum [PDF]
We present a dynamical model for the double torsion pendulum nicknamed PETER, where one torsion pendulum hangs in cascade, but off-axis, from the other. The dynamics of interest in these devices lies around the torsional resonance, that is at very low frequencies (mHz).

Fiber-Optic Sensors for Measurements of Torsion, Twist and Rotation: A Review
Optical measurement of mechanical parameters is gaining significant commercial interest in different industry sectors. Torsion, twist and rotation are among the very frequently measured mechanical parameters. Recently, twist/torsion/rotation sensors have

Quantification of Friction Force on Dual-Axis Micro-Mechanical Probe for Friction Force Microscopy
Conventional friction force microscopes (FFMs), where micro cantilever probes are used, have a disadvantage that the accurate quantification of friction force has not been established yet.
