The Mechanism of Transcription Stalling under Torsion [PDF]
During transcription, RNA polymerase (RNAP) translocates along DNA and introduces torsional stress, and excessive torque accumulation can lead to transcription stalling. We previously measured this stall torque for E. coli RNAP during transcription1. However the mechanism and regulation of RNAP stalling under torsion has remained elusive.

The viscoelastic properties of rubber under a complex loading [PDF]
PhDThis thesis aims to explore the effect of pre-strain on the viscoelastic behaviour of rubber materials. There are various conflicting theories in the literature regarding the strain dependence and resulting anisotropy of the viscoelastic behaviour ...

Neurovascular Contacts in the Pathophysiology of Neuralgic Amyotrophy: An Observational Study
ABSTRACT Objective Neuralgic amyotrophy (NA) is a prevalent, monophasic, multifocal immune‐mediated neuropathy. A distinctive characteristic of the disease is the occurrence of nerve or fascicle constrictions and torsions (NA‐associated focal nerve lesions, NAFL). The pathophysiology underlying this phenomenon remains to be fully elucidated.

Pre‐Torsion Tubular Metamaterials: Multi‐Effect Integration for Advanced Functional Applications
Mechanical metamaterials continuously push the boundaries of mechanical properties far beyond conventional materials. However, a critical step toward the applications of metamaterials lies in combining multiple effects and functionalities into a single ...

White structure flaking (WSF) has been found to be one of the failure modes in bearing steels under rolling contacts through the formation of cracks associated with a microstructural change called white etching area (WEA).

Torsional Mechanics of Circular DNA
Circular DNA found in the cell is actively regulated to an underwound state, with their superhelical density close to σ ∼ - 0.06. While this underwound state is essential to life, how it impacts the torsional mechanical properties of DNA is not fully understood.

Analysis of dynamic mechanical response in torsion [PDF]
We investigate the dynamic response of industrial rubbers (styrene-butadiene random copolymers, SBR) in torsion and compare against common small amplitude oscillatory shear measurements by using a torsion rectangular fixture, a modified torsion cylindrical fixture, and a conventional parallel plate fixture, respectively, in two different rheometers ...

Torsion of a functionally graded bar [PDF]
The purpose of the Final Year Project is to analyse the mechanical properties and characteristics of a functionally graded rod. Computational and analytical solutions are derived based for homogenous and bi-layered cylinders undergoing pure torsion ...

Gravity‐Dependent Modulation of Downbeat Nystagmus: Insights From Velocity‐Storage Dysfunction
ABSTRACT Objective Downbeat nystagmus varies with head position, a phenomenon termed gravity‐dependent modulation. We aimed to clarify its mechanism using a velocity‐storage model. Methods In 10 patients with downbeat nystagmus due to cerebellar disorders, we recorded eye movements at different pitch‐ and roll‐axis head positions.
