A natural way to obtain quintessence, i.e. negative pressure contributions in cosmological dynamics and then accelerated behavior of the Hubble fluid, is to take into account a torsion fluid whose effects become relevant at large scale. We investigate a model where a totally antisymmetric torsion field is taken into account and discuss the conditions ...

A 77-year-old Japanese woman with torsion of the gallbladder was surgically treated. Perhaps because of its rarity, the diagnosis is seldom made clinically, the condition generally being recognized only at laparotomy. Discussed herein are the possibility of preoperative diagnosis of this condition and the usefulness of ultrasonotomography.

A series of 128 cases of adnexal torsion and an additional 97 cases where the preoperative diagnosis of torsion was incorrect are reviewed. The diagnosis is uncertain and surgical intervention is likely to be delayed. The adnexa are seldom salvaged despite the fact that torsion infrequently involves a malignant neoplasm.
