Simple harmonic oscillations, energy considerations, torsional pendulum

open access: yes, 2011
The simple harmonic oscillations (SHO) of suspended solid bodies are related to their geometry. The torsional pendulum oscillates in the horizontal plane; the SHO does NOT depend on the small angle approximation.Educação Superior::Ciências Exatas e da ...

Regression‐based models for the torsional stiffness reduction factor in reinforced concrete beams under combined torsion and shear

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper presents a regression‐based methodology to estimate the Torsional Stiffness Reduction Factor (TSRF) of reinforced concrete beams under combined torsion and shear. A numerical database of 6816 samples was generated using the Combined Action Softened Truss Model (CA‐STM) implemented in Python, considering design guidelines prescribed ...

Excitation control of torsional oscillations due to subsynchronous resonance

open access: yes, 1979
Subsynchronous resonance phenomena in a power system with series-capacitor-compensated transmission lines may cause damaging torsional oscillations in the shafts of the turbine generator.

Active Power Control of Full‐Scale Converter‐Based Wind Turbine Considering Turbine Angular Velocity for Short‐Term Frequency Stability in Power Systems

open access: yesIEEJ Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Engineering, EarlyView.
The increasing deployment of wind turbine generators (WTs) may alter the frequency stability of power systems. Unlike traditional synchronous generators, WTs are connected to the power system through converters. Consequently, WTs cannot provide an inertia response to the power system. Nevertheless, the converters can perform rapid control.

Helioseismic Observations of Torsional Oscillations Inside the Sun and Their Potential for Predicting Solar Cycles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The helioseismic analysis of torsional oscillations of the Sun, obtained in 1996-2018 from SOHO (Solar and Heliospheric Observatory) and SDO (Solar Dynamics Observatory), reveals the spatio-temporal dynamics associated with the dynamo process.

Gas check prevention during calendering of poly(vinyl chloride) films using poly(caprolactone)‐based additives

open access: yesJournal of Vinyl and Additive Technology, Volume 31, Issue 2, Page 441-452, March 2025.
Three poly(caprolactone) (PCL)‐based additives of differing molecular weights were used as a secondary plasticizer to prevent gas checks in PVC films produced through calendering. Results showed that chemical and physicochemical properties influence the prevention or reduction of gas checks, unlike rheological properties including complex viscosity and

Unveiling Otolith Mystery: Contemporary Testing Approaches and Their Clinical Significance

open access: yesWorld Journal of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Otolith is a critical component of the peripheral vestibular system responsible for detecting linear acceleration. Dysfunction of the otolith organs can lead to vertigo, balance disturbances, and gaze instability. By elucidating the physiological foundations and evaluating both current and emerging methods for assessing otolith ...

Fast Nodal Hessian Computation for Peridynamic Fracture Simulation

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
A fast, exact nodal Hessian computation for Non‐Ordinary State‐Based Peridynamics is introduced through analytical simplification and a warp‐centric GPU strategy. The method accelerates preconditioned solvers and Vertex Block Descent, enabling interactive fracture simulation with physical accuracy.

Visual, vestibular, and ocular motor changes during nitroglycerin‐triggered vestibular migraine

open access: yesHeadache: The Journal of Head and Face Pain, EarlyView.
Plain Language Summary Vestibular migraine (VM) is a common cause of intermittent dizziness, but there have been no studies with provoked (induced) VM used to characterize how the vestibular and ocular (vision) systems interact. We injected 20 patients with VM with nitroglycerin to provoke an attack and used a specialized camera to record their eye ...

Modelling compressive loading in large‐bodied mammals reveals distinct biomechanical strategies in proboscidean humeri

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
Graviportal proboscideans differ in limb morphology, adopting slender or more robust long bone morphotypes. Finite element analyses (FEA) on extant and extinct taxa reveal functional differences between morphotypes, with robust humeri exhibiting lower peak stress under neutral and off‐axis loading.
