A typical electromechanical drivetrain consists of an electric motor, connecting shafts and gears. Premature failures of these shafts and gears have been reported which are mainly due to fatigue caused by extreme loads and torsional oscillations ...

Electron screening effects on crustal torsional oscillations [PDF]
We systematically examine the crustal torsional oscillations as varying the stellar mass and radius, where we take into account the effect of electron screening due to the inhomogeneity of electron distribution.

Mechanical Flexibility Enables DNA Origami to Overcome Steric Confinement in Mucus
Mechanical flexibility is introduced as a design parameter to enhance nanocarrier transport in mucus. Using DNA origami, flexibility is decoupled from size, shap and surface chemistry, revealing improved passage through confined hydrogel networks. While surface passivation reduces aggregation, flexibility further boosts transport, offering a general ...

Geometric constraint reconfiguration enables a rigid–foldable kirigami‐inspired mechanism to switch between twisting, directional translation, and self‐locking states. By encoding multifunctionality directly into its architecture, the mechanism achieves multimodal motion and passive locking without reassembly, providing a compact platform for adaptive ...

Stochastic Entanglement of Deterministic Origami Tentacles For Robust Robotic Grasping
This study introduces an origami tentacle gripper to robustly grasp objects‐in air, underwater, and even in orbital space‐by exploiting a synergy between local, deterministic deformation programming and global, stochastic entanglements. A single origami tentacle can be designed to coil with a simple tendon pull.

XVIII.—On Torsional Oscillations of Wires [PDF]
About two years ago I communicated to this Society a paper on the above subject, which was printed in the Philosophical Magazine (1894). The object of the investigations therein discussed was the determination of the law of decrease of torsional oscillations when the range of oscillation was large in comparison with the palpable limits of elasticity ...

Shear‐Mode Direct Piezoelectric Response of Ferroelectric Nematic Liquid Crystals
Periodic shear‐induced electric current measurements are reported on two archetypic ferroelectric nematic liquid crystal compounds. From the temperature, frequency and shear angle dependent results of the first and second harmonic current signals together with temperature and oscillatory rheology measurements, the effective piezoelectric coupling ...
