Some estimates for the torsional rigidity of composite rods

open access: yesMathematische Nachrichten, 2007
AbstractA well‐known problem in elasticity consists in placing two linearly elastic materials (of different shear moduli) in a given plane domain Ω, so as to maximize the torsional rigidity of the resulting rod; moreover, the proportion of these materials is prescribed.

Verification of the effect of yarn torsional rigidity on fabric bending rigidity in any direction [PDF]

open access: yesTextile Reseach Journal, 2017
The effect of yarn torsional rigidity was verified on the Cooper model for fabric bending rigidity in any direction. We made five cotton fabrics with different weft densities and prepared three commercial fabrics as experimental samples.

Torsional Rigidity of Scoliosis Constructs

Spine, 2000
A biomechanical study of the rigidity of various scoliosis constructs instrumented with and without caudal pedicle screw anchors and with none, one, or two cross-link devices. To determine whether the increased torsional rigidity provided by distal pedicle screw fixation might make cross-linking unnecessary.Pedicle screws and cross-linking devices have ...

Torsional rigidity of a plateau border

Mechanics Research Communications, 1997
The cross section of struts in an open-cell foam is reminiscent of the Plateau borders in gas-liquid foams, and typically have the shape of a convex equilateral triangle. Plateau borders form where liquid accumulates along the edges of polyhedral gas bubbles where pressure is reduced because of interfacial curvature.

New methods for estimating the torsional rigidity of composite bars

open access: yesInternational Journal of Engineering Science, 2009
We obtain general bounds on the torsional rigidity and give examples on how these bounds can be used to obtain estimates and simple formulae which yield more accurate information than the classical treatment. Moreover, we use the homogenization theory to

Torsional Rigidities for Bars Under Fully Plastic Torsion

SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 1973
The completely plastic torsion of multiply connected cylindrical bars is formulated as a variational problem over a closed convex subset in a Hilbert space. The basic existence and uniqueness questions are answered and an explicit formula for the solution is derived.

Rigidity of p-adic p-Torsion

The Annals of Mathematics, 1988
This is a beautiful paper! It has its origin in the so-called Brauer-Zassenhaus conjecture asking whether, given a finite subgroup \(S\) of units in the integral group ring \({\mathbb{Z}}G\) of a finite group \(G\), there exists an invertible element \(u\) in the rational group algebra \({\mathbb{Q}}G\) that conjugates \(S\) into \(\pm G\). As is shown,

Torsional rigidity for regular polygons

Mathematics and Mechanics of Solids, 2021
We present a simple lower bound for the torsional rigidity of a beam with regular polygonal cross-section. The methods used are applicable to other cross-sections, in particular to other tangential polygons.

The Torsional Rigidity of Blend Yarns

Textile Research Journal, 1980
The variation of the coefficient of shear modulus for blended yarns deviates slightly from a linear relationship, based upon the relative amounts of the components present in the yarn, being more nearly linear as the twist decreases. For yarns having lower twist factors there is a good correlation between experimental and calculated data.
